dont know how easy they are to fit but i remember they were popular in the u.s....and you could buy a custom kit for the mk3
try this link for some info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercharger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercharger)

you don't mean an induction kit do you?
and in very simple terms a supercharger is a different version of a turbo charge but without the turbo lag
out of interest... anyone popped a turbo on a mk3?

A turbo uses exhaust gases to spin the turbo creating boost where as a supercharger is belt driven (hence no lag and more low down grunt)
and to turbo the mk3 you would need some serious internal mods to run decent boost otherwise melted piston's!!

Thanks chaps
I had heard you could get a bolt on super charger, but never heard of one being fitted
-
Storm in Aldermaston fit them to V6 engines they might do others.
Just dont believe their RR figures!
-
the bolt on super charger kits are available but hard to find, they aint cheap either
But as brad says you will need some serious engine work upgrading to get the engine to be able to handle it
I think there was a post about this ages ago and the concensus was if you want a turbo fit a turbo engine - this will cost £Â£Ã‚£s as well though
There was a guy on here who said he was going to turbo his 8 or 16V engine but AFAIK he hasnt updated about it

I just mailed g werk, but they don't do one!

I think topher may be right about the supercharger not fitting
In the US they didnt get an 8V MK3 (I think), I think they only got the 16V and VR6 - I wouldnt quote me on that but I remember readin it somewhere

Sourced from wiki:
A 16-valve version of the third-generation Golf GTI was introduced in 1993. This model was greeted with a muted sense of disenchantment by the motoring press. The engine was enlarged to 2.0 L, with power now reaching 150 PS (110 kW/148 hp). While underpowered compared to the VR6, it was still relatively popular with driving enthusiasts in Europe (North America didn't get the proper GTI version, but had the name applied to the VR6 engine).

Quoting from that bahnbrenner link above..The complete bolt-on Stage I kit bumps up your power by nearly 60% 177+ bhp 180 Torque!
That has to be talking about the 8V engine... since the 16V already has 150BHP so that's a pretty piss-poor increase if they started with a 16V... People seem to get figures like that with a Chip, Filter and zorst on a 16V....
I'd love a supercharger kit for my VR though... but it eats enough fuel as it is

Fair dues dude, didnt read the small print - probably is for a MK3.
Found this site here with lots of turbo'd golfs, including a bunch of Mk3s:
