Hello, just taken delivery of a GTI. Great car but what’s the crack with the heated front mirrors? Mine has some condensation on them this morning. I turned on the heated rear window (what has actived the heated front mirrors in all my previous VAG cars). But I still couldn’t see out of them by the time I got to work.
Is there another way or operate them? Do they only operate below a certain temperature? Or could they be broken?

Firstly welcome to the site
I must admit this had me foxed for a bit but if you look on your mirror remote (drivers door) you will see a heated mirror symbol at the front. Simply push the button forward towards this symbol (think that's how it works anyway!)

On mine, you turn the dial to the heater symbol (6 o'clock pos) and leave it, it will take approx 3 mins to heat up, if it doesnt, go back to the dealer.I have electric folding mirrors too. (dial to 12 o'clock pos). if you are pushing the button then you are not doing it corrent (paulm007).
also if you do use the defrost funtion, do insure that you turn them off once mirror is frost free, because if you leave them on, you WILL burn out the element and is expensive to replace. Not sure VW cover that if you do.

stupid miss on the VW's part: back window heater turns off automatically after 10 minutes, but the mirror heaters do not, and it is much easier to forget that the mirror heaters are on than the back window!

do the e30s come with heated mirrors standard or option?
-
Standard, turn the mirror knob to 12 o'clock.

Standard, and it is an annoying feature that they do not automatically turn off after a set time like the heated rear window.
-
thought all gti's had them as standard

Worked out how to do this on my old GTI the day I collected the ED30. Don't know why we couldn't just have a wee button saying "heated mirrors". I think they should give me a design job at GTI HQ.....

It was like that on the MKiv, timed and controlled from the heated rear screen switch.
