Title: Golf Mk 3 1.4 CL
Post by: Tonio on 07 March 2004, 16:11
Hi all,
I don't own a GTI due to my age and this being my first car but I was hoping for some help that would be relevant despite the model of my car.

I just bought this Mk 3 Golf a couple of weeks ago, its a 1.4 CL, K reg 1993 and has had a fairly complete history but is a couple of months overdue a service. The problem im having is with the clutch and gears not being very smooth. The clutch needs pushing right down to the floor to change gears and has a low bite point, also sometimes when changing gears the gear stick wont move to the next gear and will feel like the clutch hasn't been pressed down! If i de-press and press the clutch once or twice it will then change gear ok.

I just wanted to know if anyone has heard of a problem like this before and wether it is a big problem and needs a new clutch or something or if a gear box oil change is likely to fix it. Hopefully its nothing too serious!

Thanks for any help

Try changing the clutch cable and the gearbox oil.
