Recently changed pads all round on my GTi, the pads have been well bedded in although the rears were a little sticky. I am now getting a vibration and a grinding sound back through the brake pedal when a small amount of pressure is applied or light braking, if a heavier pressure is applied it is fine.
The system has been bled and the braking fluid level is fine.
Anyone experienced this before?
cheers

If you didn't change the discs then it could well be the new pads bedding themselves into the shape of the old discs. If you've been a right numpty then maybe you put one the the pads on the inside the wrong way round!

Hi All,
FYI, this turned out to be a broken ABS ring which is part of the Hub assembly.
all fixed!
-
and your ABS was still working?
-
Couldnt have been could it! he didnt mention the ABS light, but then somebody has probably taken the bulb out!
-
Well if it doesn't come on for 3 seconds when you switch the ignition on then there's definately something wrong..

sometimes when i start mine from cold there is a 5 sec vibrating sound (i can also feel it through the floor) coming from behind the dash or bulkhead, anyone know what this might be my car is a 8v completely standard.
many thanks

If you park the car up a kerb or at an angle it's probably the exhaust knocking. A rubber gone or a mount broken
-
no its nothing like that, (i am quite mechanical) it sound like some sort of motor or something just going brrrrrrrr for about 5 secs its quite a strong noise, movement to be exhaust ect. only happens sometimes when started from cold/after parked up for the night.
many thanks

Tonight i braked quite hard and skided a little i felt the abs kick in then after this happend the light stayed on for the rest of the journey home. Turn the car off then on again then there was no abs light on..

Hmmm faulty sensor maybe? Mine came on after i plained on some water, now its on permantly. Broken sensor.
You need to VAG.com, see if there is any faults. If not. Look up the sensor change thread to show you how to test your sesnors.
Failing that, pump? or i dunno...

thanks dude

Try the multi meter bit on this to test them all if you dont have VAG.com

I know this is a old thread but worth a try before starting a new thread. I`ve also been getting a vibration/clicking noise from brake pedal/bulkhead area when braking lightly usually just after start up. Also sometimes when almost at a stop it will brake harder than needed (i`m sure the abs is kicking in as i can feel it through pedal)it does this when my abs light is not on yet when the light is on it seems ok. Also the vibration/clicking noise happens when light is either on or off,From what i`ve read im guessing abs ring for the vibration clicking noise and brake load sensor valve for the unpredictable braking whilst travelling slowly.(less than 10mph)
Forgot to say its a mk3 Gti 2.0 8v 1996, Any help muchly appreciated as i imagine driving might get a little tricky soon as we get some ice on the road! :undecided:
