Hi all,
I ordered a Golf GTI from cars4charities in June and it has now been built and on its way to the dealers. I received a letter from cars4charities asking for payment and an insurance cover note so that they can get the car registered with the DVLA. However, the cover note needs to be done on the chassis number. I phoned Admiral, who I am currently with, but to cut a long story short they couldn't do it. They needed a registration number. I didn't have time to call any others.
Does anyone know of any insurance companies that will give insurance based on a car chassis number? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know you don't need an insurance cover note to have a car registered. All the dealer should need a cover note for is as proof of insurance to get the road tax. :nerd:

thats right, you dont need insurance to get it registered. when I got mine fnew rom a main dealer, they just ask for your name address.
I think you need a reg number to insure a car, otherwise the insurance co cant see it on their database which is linked to the DVLA.

They have said that they need the cover note to register the car. The car needs to be covered at the time of registration. It's just a lot of hassle. I'll have a look on the DVLA website to see what they say about importing cars.
Wish it was simple. I've been waiting ages for the car to be built and now I have to phone around the insurance companies
Thanks for your replies

Any half decent insurance company/broker should be able to arrange cover for you. Unfortunately the internet is partly to to blame with insurers now using online systems and general assumptions to quote for premiums. Most are not geared up to deal with out of the ordinary situations.Try Bell Direct as they will quote on only a chassis number but you may have to ring them. I also see that they are part of the Admiral Group !

Also A J Insurance Service which I found during an internet search.
