Title: What car have you beat in your R32
Post by: DannyBoyR32 on 11 October 2007, 15:39
i know this is a gti forum but sorry couldn't resist..................

i am personally not one for racing as my enjoyment mainly comes from my relationship with the car and not with the other drivers who can beat or lose to

however, a number of different cars have tried their luck since i bought it most recently all in good humour i add, a merc cls (?), i let him go on and then overtook him, when i saw him again at the lights, he was almost crying, although he was twice my size so i never actually offered him a tissue..............

A leon Cupra R that was (according to the driver) putting out 270BHP. I doubt it tho - it had some sort of remap. But my R won. A civic type R both new shape and old. Some sort of other Honda car one day, was dark so not sure what it was. A Driver in an X5 tried it on one day. Not sure why

I love my R, amazing motor :)

my feelings entirely

I was also wet last night, really wet, my tyres are being changed tomorrow and esp was off. Standing start flat out bald tyres all 4 were spinning. she must have ended up at least 80% power to the rear wheels as I was not moving much but the rear went out to the side. Loved it!

that's what i like to hear...............

it's always the inappropriate people that try to race

the ones who could beat it don't usually bother themselves............

it's all good fun though

do you notice though drivers of say aston martin's which are quite frequent in london always have a guilty look as if to say you paid a third of what i paid and you look like you're having more fun!!!

although, i must say the aston is a nice looking car

I blame the driver of the R32 lol - otherwise I think it should be pretty equal.

was gonna say

it's must have been my mum driving my car!!!!

i do always notice a certain healthy competition with the gti. i can't say i've seen many ed30 around though to be honest.......

Come across a number of gti's and have left them for dead.. this is usually on the motorway may I add. So once we start getting into the higher figures or a slight hill they seem to just fade away. No ED30's yet but i will let youknow the out come when I come across one..

Apart from that a number of St's have curtiously moved over and then tried to floor it ( to stop me from getting ahead) I just give em the old  as I cruise past! Lovelly!!

I really want to destroy a ctr though.. that would give me most pleasure.. Of course im not in to racing or anything like that!!

I doubt you will destroy a ctr tbh. Standing start then i have no doubt the r32 will be quicker, but rolling they have near identical 0-100 times and the 60-100 time is actually quicker in the ctr so i would imagine it would be down to the driver. I have had a few mini run ins with the r32 and was very unimpressed seeing as they are much more expensive, awd and 3.2 litres. I would much rather have a remapped ed30

i wasn't really setting it up as an r32 v ed30 v gti as you've probably discussed it

just r32 against other non vw cars

i'm especially interested in the looks on the driver's faces if you managed to hang round long enough

Well then i would hope to meet one in the wet or on a nice juicy incline (or from stand still as you put it)!! I dont think price has anything to do with it really.. as we could get into a totally different discussion as to the fact that alot of cars are overpriced for the power they give. Accepted that the R32 is slighty over priced but like I have stated previously I paid less for mine than many would have paid for their Gti's. So like the Murphys in not ....

And if we are talkin about remaps and stuff then a nice stage4 would do nicely.. (as long as someone else is paying)

Its quite an underestimated car and for some reason because it set the benchmark 6 years ago people people feel the need to show how much better their latest gen hot hatch is, which i still dont understand? If you like it, then buy it. I have shown up a few next gen hot hatches and its a great feeling to know a car, that has been out for ages and other manufacturers have used to set standards, can still beat these new 200+ bhp cars  The FN2 is a huge sidestep and tbh cant compete to well allthough as a package it holds its own very well. The japenese ctr the FD2, however, will give every current hatch out their a run for their money with its pure race spec

Fair play!! I do agree with you there as a couple of years back I was lookin to get a hot hatch and the ctr was my first choice.. simply because it was priced right and went like stink! not to mention the rave reviews it received from many motoring fractions. Its just recently it seems some of the earlier models hav slipped into the chav price bracket and seem to want to race anything from the lights, from porkas to mobility scooters.

I still lookin to murder one though!!

i had a race "childish" with an R32 sunday morning, up rossendale by pass for any one who doesnt know it its quite steep and stright and over 1 1/2 miles, it was funny really the R32 owner came stright along side me and slowed down and then booted it, and so did i to be honset it wasnt close i pulled away quite easily, by the time we hit the brow i was quite away ahead, i slowed down and he caught me up, he started flashing me, i noticed he was smiling so i pulled up further on at a laybye, he got out of car laughing saying what the hell have you done to that, my car has a remap and is supporsidly 310bhp, i like the R32 its a better looking car than he GTI/ED30, but an ED30 remapped is quite a lot quicker and thats a fact.

At least you could have a bit of laugh with the guy, usually you get some d#'k head who takes it the wrong way and starts driving like git

So are you liking the car a bit more now stan?  (n

Glad to hear it

I got a bit fed up with my ED30, I only get to use it at weekends, hardly ever during the week and then it's just round town, I started thinking why did I buy it but when I get the chance to have a real drive, I must admit I love it. Your right by saying they are not the fastest thing out there but it can still surprise me (mine's not chipped).

BTW, stop being lazy and get it cleaned, the weather at the moment will make your fingers look like Wall's sausages but it needs to be done

The only thing is, even though its just a few miles away, we may go just a few times a year! It's a gorgeous place but for exmaple, me and the mrs had a few days in one of those 'hand picked hotels' in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, that was a superb place, never been there before

I don't know... today i was following R32 uphill, and my wheels were spinning on starts and on acceleration (I had ESP on and felt it work), so I guess R32 will pull away on inclines, especially twisty inclines.

Also, R32 sounds real sexy , but we all know that. Ed30 sounds really thin in comparison , but hey, it is a four-pot!

I know this is a golf forum but the R32 has been mentioned, any way not so long ago I followed a black 06my R32 very early in the morning on my way home from work I was in my Focus ST225(albiet stage 2 bluefin, k&n gen 2 induction, miltek cat back and piper decat=290bhp/350ft lb) it was very wet but I caught upto him and he oviously wanted to give it some so I obliged.  On the straights I easily passed him  but when a round about came up it was a joke in my focus front wheel drive and nearly 300 horses dont mix   any way if my focus had of been std it would have spanked my arse and on the other hand if the Golf had of been fettled it would have spanked my arse.  The focus is in the auto trader now and ive bought a 05my golf gt tdi140 soon to be 190.

Cheers

Anyone have any idea how much one of these turbo nobjobblers would cost? and gains expected??

Last year there were two cars with HPA/HGP twin turbo conversions and they were both putting out 565bhp

The single turbo conversion has two or three packs varying from 385 to 450bhp.

I had the price list last year and they were anything from £5k to £11k for the twin turbo jobbie

Look on the link below and drool

i guess when you look at the fact that you can have 385bhp for another 5k or so it doesnt seem that bad a deal. Does anyone have one of these puppies done?? How does the car in general cope with such power?? 4wd etc??
Got me thinkin now!!!

just got back from 450 mile round trip

damn it's good on the motorway

i think if it did have more hp it would be totally unecessary although saying that i did see a bmw 335i which wanted a little tussle but the road was a little too busy and i think the 335i has slightly more power so it would be useful in that situation but that's kind of rare
