Hi,
I'm having a wierd problem removing my oil filter on a 16v ABF. I have changed filters before, but this feels like its welded on. I'm I missing something which is holding it in place? Or is it just twist on and off. I've tried 3 filter remove tools and even the screwdriver trick has failed. The sump plug was a pig due to whoever changing last never putting a seal ring on. Could this be the problem? Many thanks

these could help - the tip in the first link about tearing off the filter and the using the hammer might be a last resort.... but the razor blade thing sounds worth a go

Cheers mate, great help!

I found a goodun to get them off, Ram a screw driver through it and use that to turn it! worked wonders for my sticky filters. Of course if its fitted proply in the first place you should be able to get it off with your hands.

A £3.99 chain oil filter removal tool from Halfrauds works for me..

Get yourself one of these (tenner from Machine Mart) the harder you try turn it, the tighter it grips the filter !!!! I used to use chain wrenches, and also have used the strap type but, this is by far the BEST tool for the job !!

that looks pretty cool, is there enought room to get at the oil filter in an ABF with that though? It's a bit of an awkward angle
