Title: VW Golf Night Driving Advert
Post by: maxamus on 10 October 2007, 10:15
Saw this for the 1st time yesterday and it just blew me away. Probably one of the best adverts i've seen in a very long long time. So powerful it made my hairs stand up. I love the simplicity and honesty of it!!!

You can see the full advert here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5U9I7QrpSkk

Soundtrack: “Don’t Blow It” from the Solaris soundtrack by Cliff Martinez.
Richard Burton provides the voiceover: an excerpt from the Dylan Thomas play for voices: “Under Milk Wood”.

“And all the people of the lulled and dumbfound town are sleeping now.

Hush, the babies are sleeping, the farmers, the fishers, the tradesmen and pensioners, cobbler, schoolteacher, postman and publican, the undertaker and the fancy woman, drunkard, dressmaker, preacher, policeman, the webfoot cocklewomen and the tidy wives. Young girls lie bedded soft or glide in their dreams, with rings and trousseaux, bridesmaided by glow-worms down the aisles of the organ-playing wood….

You can hear the dew falling, and the hushed town breathing.

Only your eyes are unclosed to see the black and folded town fast, and slow, asleep…”

I JUST LOVE IT!!!

The only thing is, had it been an ED30 and the car had stopped at the traffic lights, the people would not have stayed asleep for long, they would have got up and wanted to know why a tractor was outside :smug:

Seen quite a few of these GT models aroudn my area. They seem quite nice for a GT model car (and look fast enough on paper) I hear the economy on the 1.4 TSI is really good.

No one really cares about the oil burner

yeh i saw that ad about 6 months ago - a woman came driving about my area looking for people who own golfs because the worked for a marketing company for VW and wanted opinions on other manufacturers adverts - and their own. sat and did the  survey, took about 20 mins watched a few ads - and best bit is she gave me a whole £7 in vouchers for my time, lol - but i lost them :embarassed:

I think they look great and they do seem to be getting more popular. I have stopped 'flashing' them though (also GTI &R32) just because I get funny looks   I did get a wave from a Polo Gti driver though :smug:

I'd give you a funny look if you "flashed" me. There is a time and place for that kind of behaviour, and its not on the road :)

Dunno really - I would have the 170 oil burner over its petrol version, the engine is probably quieter and will last a bit longer

I had a woman in a new GT sport pull alongside me today, must admit they do look better in the flesh

i like the way VW colourcode all the bumpers and give it smoked lights as standard  why couldnt they do that for the GTI!!!!
Stick some descent alloys on it and it will look great!!! I like it alot!!!

i might cosider getting one of these with all the toys as my next car dare i say it.
I seen one not so long ago with R32 alloys and it looked better than my GTI -more aggresive  :embarassed:

The GT SPort looks awesome. I wish they sold it in South Africa. I can imagine it being a hit.

I swear the colour coded body work isn't standard? Iv never seen a GT on the road with colour coded bumpers (like the ED30).

In fact, those pics are the first time I've seen a GT with colour coded bumpers.

Car ads generally show a higher level of trim/spec than the standard model.

you could place your order for them about 2-3 months ago i believe; my local stealer got one of the TSI models on the forecourt in Grey with the 18inch Classix  :undecided: alloys on it; looks good
