I'm thinking of getting a private plate for my standard GTI  but not sure what to get :undecided: I've seen some that are like *** DUB or whatever, or GT** AYE but then shows the age of the car
Any suggestions? Also would a private plate just be pretentious? like this -> :smug:

T3 DDY
T30 KGB
Don't get a dating one unless it pre-dates the model date
-
I'm not after one with my name on  More to do with the car really....
-
....VW05 RED ? - Oh, sorry! That's taken!
My '05' can be interpreted as Mk5 or the date - I don't care which.
-
I went for T200*** not many people get it though . The downside is I cant chip it for more power without changing the plate - doh
-
FA57 DUB 1k to you sir.
thafe
-
Private plates.......no
-
Bye Bye
That is cheecky but anyway. Poor effort
-
i went for V5 and my partner's and my 1st name initals, was pretty good price aswell, only £300, and makes the car stand out more with a short reg number imo
-
Im on the verge of buying W31 CFC or W3 LCFC as it will appear on the plate with a bit of jiggery pokery
(Im a leicester city fan for my sins)

Private plates?
:embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

it is now illegal to change spacing of letters/numbers on your plates. If they are not in standard format you run the risk of getting done - plus it is now an item that is checked when your MOT comes round.
Incorrect plate = fail!! (see Auto Express this week)

....I haven't seen this week's AutoExpress but hasn't this law been enforcable for considerable time (several years!) and a blind eye is commonly turned?

my mate on his mk2 g60 ralley has 'B4D VW' cool as bad vw

I used to be a fan of private plates, thought they looked cool and did make the car stand out and back in the day hide the real age of the car.
So when I brought my new GTI last year, I had a long hard think and came to conclusion my friends would think I'm a flash barsteward and decided against it.
My personal opinion is that personal plates are everywhere these days and especially the current style, i.e. MY07 CAR and that my car makes me stand out a bit anyway, and I don't want a private plate to make me stand out even more, especially in London.
Just my opinion! :nerd:

I have had the same private plate on my last four cars. It is a bit of a pain transferring it every time, but worth it. I never forget it when at a pay and display meter that asks for the reg no. On the RARE occasions that I have been pulled over by the Fuzz, again I can remember the reg if asked. It pre dates the model (being a 1992 J reg) and also means that no-one knows the true year of my car (is it a brand new 57 reg or is it a 56 reg?). The best bit of all was that it was only £249 including the transfer fee and is about as near to my name as I will get without spending £0000000's. I was even offered £5,000 for it from a Japanese/Chinese bloke last year....and I still said no. :smug:

....It's particularly traditional for a R32 driver to display a 'private' plate - It's expected!!
The police are well trained in remembering plates however much they are gobblygook, so you're not going to get special attention unless your driving deserves it.

....Every R32 driver I know (but I don't know any who aren't enthusiasts) either has or wants a plate which includes "R", "R32", "VW", "DUB". Perhaps hanging out with the Da Blues Brothers are the wrong kind of people

ooooh.... Nice R32's
-
Ahh i see what you mean.. Have seen a few like that but to be honest the majority of plates I have seen on an R32 have been a name or something like that. Mine is my surname and a good representation of it too! (well i think so)
-
ooooh.... Nice R32's
....And only one of those R32's (a Mk5) is standard! Millteks, Schrik cams, big brakes, air induction, suspension, etc etc.
-
Must admit i nearly made the mistake of going for the last 3 letters VAG meening Volkswagen AG but then i was told it was well known american english slang for something else.

Explains why it was cheaper lol. I just hope VWG does not meen anything rude.

....The nice thing about such plates is that they are a tribute to the car rather than the owner.
