How easy is it to change the engine mounts and gearbox mount?
are 16v mounts better than 8v mounts?
would 16v mounts fit my 8v then?
-
don't know about 16v fitting 8v, but I've just chamged all mine on my 16v.
The front is easy, too about 1/2 hr ;D
gearbox bit more tricky but not bad 3/4 hr :)
offside was a b!tch.... :-\
heard someone say diesel mountings where better cos they were tougher?
-
VR, rich, mk1? got the answer for me guys? :-*
-
Sorry, not sure about the difference between 16v and 8v mounts........but personally I prefer to stick with the original design spec.
As long as you can support the engine with a trolley jack,as 'mk216vdubbya' says, the front one is easy, gearbox one is a little trickier, one behind the engine is a b!tch.

nice one.
now all i need to know is how much they will set me back and where i should buy them from?
VAG will damn right rip me off :-\

I'd recommend trying Stuart at Leeds Eurocarparts. OE and good prices.
-
dont wanna take anything away from Stuart at ECP but i used these ones for my mounts as they where the cheapest, and FEBI parts also

for an 8v use the Front std Hydro, Rear 16v Hydro & the std gearbox mount

I got my mountings form Volkspares, the gearbox is ?20 ish, front mounting is ?29+vat, but I think the rear one cost me over ?50 but that may have been cos VW changed the style on the mk2 16v right at the end of production, if it's earlier then 1991 then shouldn't be too much.
Hope this is helpful

yes 1991 onwards 16v's got the rear G60 hydro mount fitted as standard
this can still be retro fitted to any 8v or 16v that has the old rubber mount
