In Jan I will have had my speeding points for 3 yrs. What is the rules regarding removal and insurance? I cant remember the time when you can have them removed and i cant find it on DVLA website either.

think you contact DVLA and send away your license and they are removed.
what you'll find is that insurance companies will ask if you have any convictions in the past 4-5 years; meaning you still end up paying for your mistakes
-
As far as I know, they remain for 3 years for the purposes of totting upto 12 points. But you can only remove them from your licence after 4 years. I hope I am wrong but I don't think so
-
Think that sounds right 3 years and off after 4. What makes me laugh is that they say they dont count after 3 - so why make you keep them on and why do insurance companys need to know about 5 yrs! Well another year before i can get em off!
Grrrrr

Talking of points, etc.
I got flashed approaching a GATSO camera on Saturday. I wasn't speeding but just a bit concerned that i may get a false NIP through the post. I didn't think they were set up to flash when you approach them?
Anyone else seen this before?
Cheers

I have been reliably informed that any Gatso flashing oncoming traffic is a dummy. Cheap technology results in the camera being confused.
I hope this is right for your sake

3 years off (ban purposes), 4 years off paper part of license (pay small fee to dvla), 5 years off insurance
what a con
i've got two 3 pointers to get rid of, what a nightmare...................
what makes it worse is that they can spot someone driving 1-2mph over speed limit but not burglars etc, it's crazy.......................................................................

I know... 3-5 years is really harsh I reckon. I think it should be a year at most, or just a fine.

i wouldn't mind to keep it as it is but "they" can't even catch the real criminals
that's annoying
p.s i saw ken livingstone in a cafe the other day, i told my boss, he said "you should have punched him".......he's 70!!!!

Had this happen to me before when I was tootling along
Gatso flashed on offside lane towards me - bit of a fright but never heard anything more though. Gatso's are set up to measure average speed between 2 points, at the beginning and end of the speed indicator markings on the road surface as the car drives past the camera, not towards it

Sorry Cass ^^ I think you are wrong there. GATSOs use radar to measure your speed and then triggers the camera and flash to take two photos. The road markings are there as a backup to check that you had travelled a certain distance in the time between the two photos so they and you can check that you were speeding. This does of course rely on the fact that the time between the two photos is accurately known.
AS for the original post: the points are active for 3 years and may be removed from your licence after 4 years.

there is something on their website

hope this helps

fairly certainGATSO's flash as you move AWAY from them.
if you look closely the lines are too close to the camera to take a picture as you move towards it.
Also i've approached a GATSO and never been flashed
EDIT - found this - http://www.radardetectors.co.uk/gatso_speed_camera.htm
