On autotrader, saw a 3-dr Ed30 unreg at a Leicester dealer, silver, in stock, £21490, seemed good price (though not been here for a while, what's list?). Any good? Tempted by it to be honest, wasn't seriously looking any more, but not sure if I might change my mind now, what d'ya reck? Would avoid a big service cost coming up on my car, so might convince her indoors that it's a good financial move to change now

That is how I got tempted. They had a black one in stock and I couldn't resist. If you have a large service cost coming up and have the wherewithall to do it then I would seriously consider it. Only proviso would be a decent PX
List price is £22,322 for a bog std 3dr without even metallic. With metallic it would push the price up to £22,800, so they are giving £1,300 discount minimum. Not bad.

Thanks Hurdy. Just realised it's not got xenons though, which is a real blow....

Really?? Got them on current car and swore I'd never not have them again, as they're so good. Are the std lights that good?

I had Xenon's on the TDI MKV and must admit that they are good. The standard MKV lights are a lot better than the MKIV's used to be and I wouldn't bother ticking the box. IMHO of course

No they're rubbish, get xenons.

If you can spec a car - get Xenons. If not, you have a decision to make :undecided:
Can you live without them - IMHO - once you have had them, you can't :smug:

Good call Cass,
For a 22k car the standard halogens are rubbish. And I've never had a car with xenons so I've got nothing really good to compare them to.
Cass was right, if you spec it (and stomach the cost) then go for xenons. Apparantly the GTI xenons are the best in the business and the GTI halogens are a long way from best. My halogens are crap and a real liability on fast 'B' roads. I hear that the xenons will bring daffodils into bloom mid-winter, they're that good.

I had them on my MK4 R32 and now i havent got them on my MK5 GTi and TBH i dont miss them!
If i was after an ED30 id take it without. For that price it will be the base model for sure so expect no extras at all.

just a shame the xenons dont have a coloured tinge like some others do.
