Has anyone had a head to head and what was the outcome. Apparently mk3 is quicker off the mark but i'd guess with the turbo it would pick up alot quicker mid range?
-
i'd say the 16v would take off first and only by say 50mph would the 1.8T start to take off.......same with the vr6 it takes time for it to get moving.......
-
The 1.8T (150Bhp) is faster than than the mk3 16v and the 1.8T 180Bhp is even faster ;)
-
proof?
-
I woould be very curious to see the top end of both of these cars.
-
top end is roughly the same, but im sure the turbo mk4 will get there quicker.
and 0-60mph the official figures are faster and the mk4 150Bhp has been raced at Santa Pod as a STANDARD car and its time was 7.9secs.
nuff said.

The official tested figure by Evo magazine for the mk3 is 7.6 seconds. I believe that the term is "nuff said"
Since when did pod measure 0-60 anyway, thought they did 1/4 mile times there (I may be wrong) or are you making those figures up, as I'm sure they're different to ones you posted in another thread. Unless of course that's the 1/4 mile time you've posted in which case you really are making them up!
-
Purely in the interest of science *cough* I raced my friends mk3 valver in my 1.8T. Both cars modded with full stainless steel systems but that's it. Here's what happened..
0-60 he pulled on me, half a car length ahead by 60.
60-80 I started to creep up
By 95 we were level pegging
Continued to pull on him and was maybe a full car length ahead by 120 before shutting down (ran out of road)
Not sure if that'll settle an argument or cause one ;D we all love our own cars !
-
The Mk3 16v is faster. Weighs less, same power, lower 0-60 time.
-
so why does VW say different? ::)
-
16V is faster!, I raced a turbo last year.
He was on my arse uptill about 60 - 70, but by the time i hit 90 i was about 6 car lengths ahead.
-
A: was he trying
B: were both cars standard
C: Who had more fuel
D: ... should i continue?
-
E: All of the above
:P
-
aiight Glen, aint seen u in ages!
-
A: Yes
B: Mine was, dont know about his!
C: next you will be asking which driver weighed the most!
D: I think you should try!
-
B: Mine was, dont know about his!
If you don't know if the car was standard, how do you know it was even the turbo model ? 6 car lengths by 90mph ? okay...
-
i would expect the mk3 16v to be faster than the 150 1.8t but not the 180.
the 16v is much faster than the quoted time.
-
^ yup exactly what i said somewhere in one of these threads...
same with the 2 v5s :)
-

like the 8v :D ;)

I raced the car in aug 2003, 1 mth after i bought my car (July stupid!) and the car was a silver 01 reg turbo. I remember this as it was the first race i had in my 16V.
The power on a 16v doesent really kick in till 4,000rpm and continues up till 7,000. Between 4 and 7 is when u start to pull away from cars, especially in 3rd (105mph at 7,000).
By the way, dont be mistaking my car for a sh*ty 8v!. I used to rape mk2 and mk3 8valvers in my XR2 all the time and my XR was slow compared to my 16V! What do you drive again?

stop talking tosh.
XR2 was freebie in a packet of Corn Flakes

yup yup can vouch for that.. once u learn to keep the revs up you can maintain that all the time :D
(yes i do get through a lot of fuel... )

now you're talkin arse.. they f'kin fast lil cars!!!
-
Each to their own,
Ugly bastards of a car imo..
-
XR2's have 100bhp and are quite light. They are as fast as XR3i's upto 100mph you know! There not as fast round corners as the mk2 or mk3 8v granted (about 5mph slower), but with me driving any loss on corners was made up by my braking, input and exit speeds!

Owning an XR2 is nothing to be proud of :D
-
Theres nowt wrong with a good XR2. It was my first car and i had it for 8yrs (never broke down once unlike my Golf). i only got rid of it last year coz it failed its MOT. :'(
-
My mate had an XR3i and said it was sooo overhyped and sh!t at cornering.
If u want a ford, then get a Cossie, Focus or new shape Mondeo.
Cossie for its speed
Focus for its handling
Mondeo cos its supposed to be a great handling family saloon car.

Much like the Mk3 8v Gti!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;) :P
-
no, you'll find its the mk3 16v thats overhyped, and the mk2 8v.
7.5secs ... psshhh, its not a VR6. :D
-
no one really hypes the mk3 16v. It's not necessary. It does exactly what you'd excpect of a gti. Goes quite quick, enough torque, handles ok. Leaves space for the VR6 to be a bit special, and easily rises above the comfortable family hatches that make up the rest of the range.

I'm sorry to have to say this again, but WTF? From the many posts of yours I have the mispleasure of reading (although many are good for a laugh) you have no clue what you're talking about! Are you in fact a 5 year old child that logs on to this site to try and pretend to be a grown up, no that can't be right, even a 5 year old would have chosen a better fantasy car than the 8v (apologies to all other 8v owners, I do like the 8v, I used to own one, just this guy gets on my nerves!)
Anyway, you'll notice from the smilies in my last post, I was in fact only joking around, now why don't you just grow up.
Anyway, back to the topic...........

Yep im 5 yrs old... I can work out quadratic equations and use the DOS operating system (ask Veedub)
oh and
-5-(-5) =
can mr adult work it out? im going for my afternoon nap cos school was hard.. they made us build with lego. :-*
-
Not got a clue what that could equal mate *cough* zero *cough* You're obviously far more intelligent than I am, great credit to the schooling system that these 5 years old can do quadratic equations and wow, using DOS, that's an amazing achievement at that age. Bet your mummy and daddy must be so proud, you never know they might get you a burberry baseball cap for your birthday.
-
COOL u can use negative numbers too ... goo goo ga ga goo ga goo goo
Yea itz gr8 skool theze dayz uber funz.
hey Iball can u wire up Cat5 cable?
use 5yr olds can ... its what we do in PSE.
-
We tend not to deal with cat5 cable anymore, it's out of date, most projects that we work on use cat6 or even cat6e in some cases now. I don't wire the stuff up, I don't need to I have people that do that for me.
-
802.11g :D

But if ya running a 100mbit network u dont NEED cat6 ... cat6 is just for 1gbit
