Factory option tint. So the glass is darker...not a film :smug:
Looks better "in the flesh"
-
This is what they look like on red. I have no idea what type of tint they are as they were done by previous owner!

Is that just rear tint - or front and rear :undecided:
-
Definately geting tints, they look the nuts!!!!! I think 35% are the lightest they come before you cant see them! Anybody have any 18" monza's lying around to sell?
-
Both the fronts and rears are done on mine. The fronts are very slightly lighter but there's not much difference. As there's a lot of glass area on the Golfs, it does make quite a big difference to the looks. I like it
-
isnt that illegal though bodythief having tints from and back... you are risking being pulled over from old bill.

I think they are dangerous on the front - especially at night. My brother-in-laws cousin was pulled over last week and the cops ripped them off... and rightly so.
-
One more post to go till I reach 1000!

Well each to their own.. just don't expect your insurance to be valid if you have an accident...

My possibly illegal tints have already been discussed on here :nerd:. I bought the car from a VW main dealer and the tints were already done. Although they look quite dark from the outside, from inside the visibility doesnt seem to be affected at all. If I thought they were unsafe I'd be taking it back to the dealer. As it is , I think they look pretty good

You're ok because you can - if the situation arises and I hope it doesn't - point the finger of blame at the VW dealer who sold you the car and plead ignorance...
-
Yes hehe I will. I don't know much about these tinting films. Mine doesnt look as though it has a film applied but then I guess they are invisible anyway.
-
So back on topic.....anyone got any pics of a silver 3 door with tints. The 5 door has quite a different ( dare I say not quite as pleasing ) side profile to the 3 door.

WHAT!!!!!....and here's me thinking it looks better

To be perfectly honest, for all the Seat Leon has been getting a slating. It looks better in 5 door than the Golf, more coupe-esque.
-
Yeah, but it is still a Seat  :smug:
-
Indeed

Thats because Seat shamelessly ripped of the design for the backdoor handles from Alfa Romeo
-
I would like to suggest Lumar.
I believe it's one of the higher quality products out there.
I done mine and am pretty satisfied with it...

I think darker tinting loosk much better on silver GTI.

To GTI 5,
got your message, but couldn't reply back for some reason.
the alloys on my car are JSP Mulliner 18" coated with black paint(deadning effect).
they kinda look similar to ABT wheels, but i like'em so far. good thing is that if you get
tired of them, you just peel the coat off, n you will have a new set of silver wheels..

Same designer worked on both, Walter De'Silva. Or worked for both comapnies. He was poached from Alfa.
"In 1998 he was poached from Alfa by Ferdinand Piëch to work for the Volkswagen Group's SEAT division with the hope he could inject the same verve and sportiness to SEAT design. The result was SEAT's 'auto emoción' philosophy which saw more expressive design in the form of the 2001 SEAT Tango Concept, 2002 SEAT Ibiza and SEAT Córdoba. In March 2002 he was appointed Head of Design to the now-defunct Audi brand group encompassing design for the Audi, Lamborghini, and SEAT brands."
"Following the appointment of the former Audi chairman Martin Winterkorn as the chairman of the Volkswagen Group in January 2007, de'Silva has been promoted to Head of Design for the entire Volkswagen Group effective of February 2007 and is now responsible for the overall strategic direction of all VW brands encompassing Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen. Somebody.....
Is there a differnce between smash and grab, and tints?
Our GTI has Smash and Grab tints on every window excluding the front windcreen/windshield.
They are reasonably dark. They cant be illegal right? Maybe the law in SA (Thats assuming there is a law  ) are different?

Most aftermarket tints help deter smash and grab as they hold the glass together in the frame of the door and make it harder to gain entry :nerd:

Correct

Thanks

As Conrad (GTi5) lives in Dublin maybe the laws on tints are different over there?
-
Lost your tongue Conrad?
-
Thats correct lensblue! Laws are v easy going over here, no law against window tints nor about mk3 guys on the mk5 section lol
-
I'm still waiting for the first time I get pulled over by the police and get asked to remove my front tints.....that I haven't got . The fronts look quite dark, which is probably a knock on effect from the back tints which reduce the light inside the car.
-
Ye probly, from your pic they look pretty dark!
-
Well I was thinking that as you appear to want to use your car on the track then tints would be a bad idea!
Also tints on front windows are really bad at night!
-
Why would they be bad on track? Not driving on it at nightime! Had tints on my last car and had no difficulties driving at night with them, then again, they were only light tints!
-
If you really want to learn to drive your car effectively on a track, which will be a help for road use, then maximum visibility is called for. Nothing better than hitting the apex of a bend just right!
-
Good point! Cheers
