Title: Too much time to think about what to buy and what mods to do...
Post by: boomshankaman on 29 September 2007, 08:53
Hey guys....and beautiful ladies too,

I have a total dilemma. I'm out in Afghanistan at the momment, my car back home is a 1987 mk1 gti cab, and it's in a right state. I seized the engine a while ago and took it out to replace it with one a 'friend' sold me. Anyway it turns out that a 1.8 1991 8v engine is completely different to a 1.8 1987 engine. Obviously i soon discovered the difference between my K Jet and newly aquired digifant.

So i'm out here and all i've been thinking about is my options for when i get home. Replacing the wiring in my mk1 to fit the digifant engine is out of the question. Too much time and effort over results. I think i'm just gonna fit a standard engine back into it from a breakers. The problem is the digifant has some great mods to it and i know it was taken care of 'cause the previous owner was a vw mechanic/enthusiast. He had it on a rolling road at 137bhp just before his 1.8t 240bhp upgrade.

I started looking into older 8v mk2's with high mileage and great body work. But the more i looked the more i fell in love with other cars e.g oak green, standard, BBS alloys. I love the idea of a standard mk2, but really think i'll regret not buying the 16v for the extra performance and potential engine upgrades. But if i do that what the hell do i do with the engine i bought.

Please help me golfgti members you're my only hope.

May the seed of your loin me fruitful in the belly of your woman.

how much? It's got higher lifting cams, vernia pully, ported and polished and an induction kit. Like i said, it was put on a rolling road just before my friend upgraded and measured at 137 bhp.

I hear what you're saying Veedub, but by the time i swap everything over and make it work on a KJet I will have lost all the bonuses of that particular engine i.e. it will no longer be the 137bhp engine that i payed over the odds for.
