Title: 3/5 door interior difference

Is the only difference between the 3 & 5 interiors the rear door cards (5dr) or rear panels (3dr)

Is the back seat exactly the same for both?

I have owned both and as far as i can see, the rear seat/parcel shelf arrangement etc are the same. the rear door cards/panels as you say are different and the front door cards are different as well cos the doors are shorter. other than that they are the same, sill trim etc maybe different tho sorry i cant remember exactly  :)

everything is the same apart from the doors and front seats (ie, no lift forward to get people in the back)

I think the pockets are the same so you can rob the later style ones for your pre '87 golf off a later model regardless if it's a 3 or 5 door.

The boot is all the same.

apparently the lift forward is there on the seats, its just covered over. i.e. if you put a little slice in the fabric you'll feel the levers - u just need to get the stick on plastic bit

also the roof lining's are different

actually an easier way to check for the lift up would be to look at the bottoms of the seats, if you see the cables going to the locks then you know its there

at least this way you wont cut the fabric

Not sure if they are original VW but i've seen some original Grey leather interiors before and they look reallynice.

The original VW leather interior I saw in my mates car (a few years ago now) had all the door cards trimmed as well.

dont know how much a retrim cost s but i picked up my rallye half leathers for 150 quid - be patient you will find a bargain.
