Title: making my 2E into a 2.1 :)
Post by: 83coupe on 27 September 2007, 12:00
ok the 2E block has been in my car for about 2 months now and its going brilliant. When i bought it i fully rebuilt my PB head, but did nothing to the block apart from swapping things like the water pump, power steering pump etc. now I'm thinking of doing the piston rings on bottom end bearings, and I'm considering putting a diesel crank in to make it a 2.1  my knowledge is limited on this swap so can anyone run me though what exactly needs to be changed when doing this conversion, and will the standard digi fueling system  handle the extra 0.3 ltr capacity, or will i need to upgrade other parts too?

Hi, You will need the crank from a 1Y diesel engine

Then you have a choice, you can either offset bush the crank bearings or you can have the pistons machined, the height is reduced by about 1.3mm.

This setup will give you a 2042cc engine, for a true 2.1 you will need 83.5 mm pistons which you would have to source from elsewhere, you would be better of getting custom pistons made rather than machining brand new pistons.

The standard digi fuel system will fuel that just fine, think its good upto around 176bhp iirc
