Title: Vacuum connections and mystery wire
Post by: seedym on 27 September 2007, 11:53
Hi,

There's a bewildering array of braided hoses in my engine bay (1990 1.6 Driver), which I think are part of the vacuum system. Some of them are frayed and need replacing, and none of them so far as I can see are connected any more securely than simply having been pushed on. I can't find a diagram in the haynes manual or online showing where these should all go, 'cos I'm convinced that some of them are in the wrong place 'cos they've fallen off and been pushed on the wrong connectors, and some of them don't seem to be connected at all. Is there a diagram anywhere that shows how they should all fit together, and should they be jubilee clipped or something? It seems odd that they just push together when they can so easily come loose.

Also there is an electrical wire I've found dangling which I'm sure I haven't disconnected so it's probably come loose at some point. It has a blue spade connector on it, is dangling up on the left side (looking from the front) next to the carburettor, and when it is earthed the radiator fan starts spinning. What is this, and where should it be plugged in?

Any help is much appreciated,

Chris.

i think the blue spade connector is a temperature reader, that goes onto the side of the head block somewhere, as for the vacuum hoses, im almost sure, it should be in the haynes somewhere  as i had similar difficulties.
