Title: Is it really worth keeping?
Post by: Ant on 25 September 2007, 09:37
I've just about had it with my Mk2 valver.

One problem after another, and I just think it's time to scrap it.
My little list of problems:
 - The drivers seat base has snapped (just by seatbelt anchor), plus the forwrad/back adjuster has gone.
 - The rear brakes have worn on one side and have started rubbing, after releasing the brakes it sometimes keeps rubbing making me thin that the brake is sticking on and hence worn down so quickly.
 - Somethings wrong in the front end, either wheel bearings, steering (power steering) or suspension, makes a lot of creaking or rubbing sounds when turning sharper corners)
 - third section of exhaust gone (this is after have the first two sections done already this year)
 - radiator leaking.
 - drinks oil, think this might be related to a problem with the oil breather hose.
 - Sunroof leaks, due to not having the nuts/bolts to seucure the sunroof properly, and possible problems with the gutter.
 - Due to leaks above, carpets almost always wet and seats sometimes.
 - ICE playing up, bass keeps cutting in and out, front dash crackling (maybe speakers, maybe amp not tracked this down yet)
 - Wheel arch trims hanging off due to the edges rusting away.
 - Cam belt needs changing.

There a host of other 'little' issues.
If there was just one or two of these problems issues I'd get it sorted, but with my MOT due on the 15th no time, I just wonder if it's really worth getting this together, as I don't have the time I'll have to give the car to the garage and just say 'fix it'. So I wonder if I should cut my losses and scrap the sucker.

I feel that if I fix this little lot I'll be left with an ok example, so maybe I should get my money together and get a better example.

Could really do with some advice.

id say break it for bits mate, dont scrap it as you would get nothing for it, you would get a few quid if you sold it in bits or just stuck it on ebay as spares or repairs
