Driving to pick someone up Saturday night at about 10.30pm when I notice a small tree has fallen onto the opposite side of the road. Being a very tight country road I slow down. The tommy tanker driving the other way decideds that rather than slow down or stop, he will swerve into my side of the road and hit my wing mirror.. as you do! Crack!! I slow down to stop and push my wing mirror out and realise he has broken the plastic light covering the indicator in the mirror. Obviously this came as a total shock (as did the knowledge that my wing mirrors dont fully fold in.. why??) So I slammed it into reverse at the next available place and gave chase... All I can say is that he was one luck ucker that I couldnt see him from the cross roads at the top of the road. I decided I was gonna take a gamble.. so i did and I floored it. Caught up to a guy but couldnt establish it was him.. Felt like twiting him anyway.. But obviously didnt... anyway Im seriously cheesed off as you can imagine! Only 3 darn weeks old and im already getting the old "i told you that car would be trouble" from concerned friends and family!
Ahhh feel slightly better after that little rant!! Back to my original concern.. Any idea how much one of these little plastic cover thingys is going to cost me?? Didnt want to go to stealers and get done over.
THx

Sorry to hear about your problem
I know what you mean about the wing mirrors not pushing in as far as you think. I was quite shocked after my MKiv.
I don't know how much the lenses are from a dealer though. Seen some darkened lenses on E-bay though.
Awesome GTI store do some for £23

About £17 (prob + vat) from the stealer. You can also get them from ebay (200155129622) if the stealer is too far away. 5 mins to replace. That's for the clear ones - not sure if the R32 ones are smoked. It's the whole indicator unit - including the leds.

i think it depends on whether you have winter pack installed then they are smoked, (dimming with light shine) then those are expensive
-
shouldn't cost that much but maybe the fitting will
depends if it affected the electrics or not?
these things happen regardless
it happened in my polo!!!!! think it was a bus that did it but what can you do
you can't wrap it in cotton wool right

Gutted mate.
I awoke one morning to find a load of kids had gown down my road smashing in wing mirrors, a few other cars had them done in aswell.
This was a few yaers ago when I had a 93' 1.4 Clio. Just cliped them back on and bought some stick on mirrors. Bothered .... lol
Luckly doesnt sound too expensive. Could be worse.

Thank golly gosh for that!! I have checked and it appears that the little indicator (yellow) lights positioned behind the clear plastic have not been damaged. So im hoping that its just the clear plastic that needs replacing. Got my local mechanic looking at it tomorrow..
Its not so much the damage that has angered me.. just the fact that he did one afterwards!! More than £20 of damage would have been done to his face if I had of caught him! Might just go with smoked ones now though

It comes as a sealed unit, I'm afraid - about £20 IIRC.
