Title: lowering and alloy sizes
Post by: kuk sool on 03 March 2004, 10:02
hi everyone

well ive finnaly purchased a very nice 91 mk2 gti 16v with very tastey extras... it has a full g60 arch conversion.... and is lowered on bilstein shocks and springs!!!

now it is well low!! i mean the vr6 spliter sits about 3-4 inches off the road! it has standard bbs rims!!! and just really needs my final input to make the car a bit more mine if you know what i mean as the previous owner really did do some subtle mods to it!!

i was thinking of changing the alloys!! to some AZEV A alloys now ive seen loads of mk2 in mags with 17's on them but with the lowness of my car already am i gonna keep scrubbing if i go for 17's or should i do 16's

pls help!!!

Scott

So by my car being lowered quite abit is it fair to say that by going up from 15's to 16's that i would get alot of scrubbage!!!

mind you i dont get any scrubbage at the moment with 15's

you don't necessarily scrub when you increase your wheel size, if you decrease your tire profile appropriately.

Not sure about older golfs, but when talking possible mk4 wheel sizes... 195/65/15's, 225/45/17's and 225/40/18's all have nearly exactly the same total diameter ( about 636 mm ).   ;)

I'm personally not sure whether to go for the 17's or the 18's for me mk4.  What do you think??

Mines lowered 105 on 16"rims with 205/40/16's. And it doesnt rub. If you have g60 arches as well i wouldnt think it would srub at all. Mine u my suspension barely moves  ;D

the suspension on mine is lovely it doesnt move and also doesnt bang like some lowered cars ive been in when you hit a bump!!!!

im gonna go for AZEV A 16's i reckon after seeing them on two mk2 golfs so far and i think they look awesome!!! and then probably restore the old bbs's!!!
