Very easy to remove/fit. Just remove the front grill, a few bolts, headlight electrical connections and bonnet release cable.

The lamps and associated adjusters etc are mounted in a metal frame which is seperate from the slam pannel.

Just make sure you get one with a decent bonnet lock as they are rivited on, not that its that hard to drill out the rivits remove it but its one less hassle if you get a good one in the first place! :)

sand away any rust and re-paint it if you go the scrappy way tho. has your car been crashed before? i was just wondering why someone would go to the bother of painting a slam panel, unless it had been bent and they straightened it  ???

The pattern front panels rust like a nutter, the originals rarely do.

i think it's a pattern part, the car's had a knock at the front at some point with its last owner, the bumper is still pushed in slightly on one side, and the grill's a bit loose in one corner...... :-\

is it easy to pull bumpers out? in about 1/4 to 1/2 inch on the nearside...

the metal box section of the bumper will be bent, you may be able to straighten it out but all the plastic clips will prob be broken, as well as the mounts on the side of the wing. would be better to buy bumper/grill/slam panel and do the whole lot in one. very doubtful that the metal mount for the bumper is shot tho the bracket maybe bent slightly. you will see what i mean when you take it all off!

Cheers for the advice ;)

think you're right, it's probably worth getting all the bits and doing it all at the same time.

Am I right in thinking they don't make the original gti 16v badges for the front grille anymore? would be nice to put a new one on with the grill ;D
