Hi,
I need to buy a new set of tyres for my Mk2 GTI which currently has a set of 15 inch BBS RA alloy wheels (see picture).
I am looking to get a complete new set, but at the moment the current tyres are all 195/45R15 82V. I am pretty certain the low profile of these tyres is causing the speedometer to read slightly faster than it should be.
Am i right in thinking the BBS RA wheels are 6J x 15? I did a search of this forum and I notice some people run them on 195/50R15 tyres, but others I have seen have 185/55R15 tyres on them.
I also checked the VW Golf Instruction manual and for the GTI 82kw it states 6Jx15 should be running on 185/55R15 and that the 195/50R15's are for 6.5J x 15.
I doubt there there is a lot of difference in these sizes, but if I am getting all 4 tyres replaced, i might as well get the optimum size for the wheel.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Dave.

I've been researching this recently.
Correct size is 185/55/15.
As mentioned though 195/50/15's are cheaper and there's more choice so you can get a better tyre.
I think most car's have the problem of under-reading so i wouldn't worry about it.
Good website for tyres is http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk
You can get them fitted local to where you are aswell.
I recently got some goodyear eagle F1's for £46 fitted, that was in 195/50/15.
