Read loads about people with remaps and how happy they are with them but I was just wondering how much time would be shedded after remapping your cars? :o
-
You can use the theoretical calculator on the link below. Supposed to be within a couple of hundredths
http://www.letstorquebhp.com/calculator.asp
Alternatively if you look at a standard GTI 0-60 time and an ED30 0-60 time you will not be far off the time for a remapped std GTI.
Manual times will be different to DSG times too.
My standard ED30 DSG = 0-60 in 5.66 secs at Inters.

^^^^^That 'Performance Calculator' may be flawed but it's a lot of fun.^^^^^

5.66, nice heh, so thats almost a second off :)

0-60?? Who cares? Plenty fast enough is the answer

Agree. Its 40mph + is where you want the real gains :afro:

....I've just spotted your "Life aint about 0-60, its about 50-80 ;)" - Obviously I agree. 30-90+ in my case (thinking of Germany of course!).
-
my standard gti manual had a supposed 65bhp remap, had it on the rolling road 258bhp, 0-60 5.76 secs, not a bad £350 spent.

where did you measure 0-60 and how did you do it (ESP off, etc etc..). Just curious
-
excuse my ignorance but who does the re-map and what does it involve?

So with the ESP off you would achieve a quicker 0-60 time?
Just wondering :p

just got the time from a rolling road, my friend had his at the pod with the same map and manual, ran 14.18 @ 101mph. the company is celtic tuning, never hurd of them before but my friend recomended them and havnt had any problems, nearly 2000 miles since i had it done.

I am curious about the procedure employed to measure 5.76sec 0-60.

ahah i get u now, my dad has a gtec RR (not sure if its gtech or tec??) hes has it for a few years but they are pritty good at measuring performance of your car, although from what i can remember he said it could be up to 0.2 seconds out, slower or faster. its a good indication thow.

Turning off the traction control in dry conditions will get you a better launch in either the manual or the DSG. The ESP can suck as much as 30% of the power if it detects too much throttle/about to spin the wheels off the line :nerd:
Anyone with fairly good judgement of throttle control can get a better launch without traction control......in the dry.

totally agree, my manual feels so much quicker with ESP off, not just on launch but on coming out of corners it pulls so much harder!! drive around mostly with it on though uless i want to floor it

don't think I've ever tried turning the ESP off - must try that later on my way home!

^^^hell yea, make sure its dry thow^^^

its bone dry and the sun is shining in sunny Lichfield!!

....In normal driving conditions on public roads (not racing off the line) I would seriously advise against switching off the ESP. At least not until you have done a proper car control training course. The ESP will save you from the hedge or French kissing a very solid obstacle when you least expect it.

Let us know what you think. It's like having a remap without having to
ONLY IN THE DRY REMEMBER!!!!!!
-
Just carrying on from this turning off the ESP. I havent yet tried it and I remember reading that if my front wheels begin to spin the power gets set to the back wheels. So how will this affect the r32 in the wet or dry?? will all wheels just spin away? or will the front ones just continue to spin on their own?? Im a little confused and dont want to be french kissing just anyone
ANYONE?? ANYONE??

had a play last night, I didn't notice that much difference while driving, mind you I didn't push it very hard
I did find that I could get a much cleaner start from a standstill, when I normally attempt a rapid start I can a bit of jerking and 'bouncing' type wheelspin, but with ESP off it just lets the wheels spin, but its much smoother and I found it easier to control by practising feathering the throttle and getting the right balance. I was suprised when you consider I've got around 300bhp through the front wheels with the ESP off!
I think I'll definately be keeping it on for normal driving conditions, and definately in the wet, but I may be tempted to reach over and turn it off when I find myself sitting at the lights on a nice day!
