Anyone know why some heads only have 4 bearing caps, not 5?
Long time since I did any proper wrenching on Golfs and my knowledge is a bit rusty, imagine my surprise when i went to do my tappets/cambelt & tensioners yesterday and found only 4 bearing caps on the cam, i thought some twerp had had a cheap head job done on it but have since found out that some do infact only have 4 caps.
anyone know the reason why? just curious.
Cheers
btw the jobs i did were pretty easy really, once I 'persuaded' the crank pulley off the rest was a piece of cake.
still got a tick under load.... bloody exhaust manifold leak.... grrrrrrrrrrr

apparently the 8v's dont make enough power to warrant the 5th cap
