hi i have a little rust comming through near the botton right of the windscreen, what is the best way to sort this out and what products should i get! i wont be popping the screen to do the work!
-
has it gone rotten under rubber? best way is to get screen out and grind off metal etch kurust and if rotten weld pieces in.
-
^^^ IMO the only way
-
 waaaa! might go to body shop then! if i took a grinder to it i would have a cabby! lol
-
Look at it this way it would be one of the nice'est cabbys ever
-
lol
i am unsure if i should have a go my self or not, i dont want to start messing with the rust bubble and fook it right up but if i leave it over winter god knows what it will be like!! :undecided:
-
get some pics up of the rust and we will have a better idea as to how bad it is, if ur going to do it do it right dont just bodge it as you will regret it later!!!!!!!!!
-
ok mate, i will get some pics up after work! its about the size of say a funny shaped 50p?? :undecided:
-
just take the plunge mate its easy just remember to do the right pre, get all rust off and prime it paint properly.
-
theres some stuff you can get that turns rust back into metal, once you have cleaned the worst of it off paint that on and it should never return as long as its painted properly ill see if i can find a link to it

there you go really is good stuff!!!
-
I've used that and it aint that good IMO  I used it and was only any good when I completely ground out every spec of rust and by then it was just acting as a primer for the rust free area left behind. I think the best long term policy is to cut out/grind every bit of rust possible/visible and then weld or fill the area followed by a rust preventing primer !
-
it was only a couple of months ago that i used it and the rust hasnt come back yet thats not saying that it wont, i hope it doesnt though
-
I hope the rust doesnt come back and to be fair you may just have done a better job than me
-
por-15 claim to "turn rust back to metal"....I'm a bit septical though
I'd say grind it out n filler it up
-
failing that dont forget to use good acid etch primer

Deffo a glass out job. You'll find the area under the rubber has probably turned to dust. I would suggest getting it done now rather than leaving it as the worse it gets the more it'll cost.

Good luck!
The mk2 i'm breaking had a bit of rust there, didn't look as bad as that though. When i took the windscreen out i found out that there was no metal behind it!
-
great! oh well!
-
bite the bullet mate do it now and do it propperly and you will never have to worry again

do you know what this product is called?
-
hammerite Krust... chemically reacts with the rust and makes it suitable for painting again, but again, it its rotted all the way through and its not just surface rust, then best plan is welding in new bits...

The best thing all round on a car that nice is to get the screen out, cut out all the rust and if possible a extra 5 or 10 mm of the good metal to be sure you got it all and then have new metal welded in, not cheep but the best way IMO

stop being a tight arse and get it sorted properly!
