Title: R32 Exhaust.
Post by: Manu_R32 on 20 September 2007, 13:24
If i were to order the R32 rear bumper i would obviously need an R32 exhaust, i sent a PM to Rob-MK5 as i know he has done this but he hasnt replied and im getting a bit impatient  Is it possible to straight fit the R32 Exhaust onto a GTI, im not to sure thats why im asking...i would think the mountings may be different and the pipe that connects to the engine may be different? (dont know correct terms but trying to explain myself) Any help would be appreciated and if im not clear enough, il try explain again as i want to find out

Pop over to Malaga Manu, was there two weeks ago and saw a Black ED30 with Rockingham/Detroit alloys and an R32 exhaust, made me look twice as it looked the nuts

Obviously you just need to find the bloke but he was cruising so must be a local

Fair play! Altho you know the attention you will get when you pull into the car park at uni with a V6 under your hood could be worth the compromise in the ol beer fund!

3 or 4 years, still not sure, i wouldnt mind driving up itself just the idea of the steering wheel being on the wrong side would be abit....more difficult maybe? Will probably get a car whilst there, just wont be a GTI due to insurance, i beleive its bit more harder to get insurance over there rather than here in Gibraltar...my sis got a car for uni so if i dont get one i will need to take action....

....The exhaust layout under the Mk5 R32 is different from the GTI but I guess you could get the back box and exit pipes custom made. If I was going to that much trouble I'd go to Milltek and get a stainless steel performance exhaust made up by them. They offer Millteks on both R32 and GTI so could possibly combine. You don't want to muck about with the cat end.

A couple of GTI drivers have done it so it should be easy enough. There's one on Tyresmoke I'll try and check out for you.

Thanks :)...If i were to email milltek, and ask them if they could set it up do you think they would give a descent price or would they over charge as im asking for something "custom"

doesn't the spare wheel well get in the way for the r32 backbox like with the mk4's ? the boot floor is raised for the rear diff clearance.

....I know Phil Millington, boss of Milltek - He's a straightforward guy who won't take advantage of you. He cares about long term customers and Milltek's reputation. Their products are guaranteed for as long as you own the car, no matter how long that is. Stainless steel is also maintenance free - Just polish the exit pipe tips.

....That's what I was getting at. And the R32 has its battery back there too.

Contact Milltek - They know the differences and what's possible.

Will call milltek during todays period and see what they have to offer or how they can help. Should i try speaking directly to Phil and mention that you reccomended me RedRobin? Or Should i just speak to the first guy that picks up the phone??

Personally, I dislike R32 exhaust. Just the placement, of course, not the sound.

....You'd probably find it difficult to get through to Phil (busy man) so just explain what you're wanting to do (Mk5 R32 rear exhaust section on Mk5 GTI) and you should get put through to someone who knows.

....Judging by the price, that won't be the piping including the Cat end but just the rear section. Good that it can be done though.

....Sorry buddy but I don't have time right now to look up prices for you but Awesome's web site should tell you, or a phone call to them. Two Milltek versions: Cat-back and Turbo-back (Hi-flow+Downpipe = More performance released)
