OK, I'm an arse, has never happened before, but due to a petrol station being shut on a major road I was on, I nearly ran out of petrol.
I got down to 0 miles on the fuel computer, then did 2 miles, and then when I found a petrol station, I filled up with 54.01 litres. So theres a spare litre when you get down to 0 miles! :nerd:

When I first got my 996, I was down to single digits on the fuel. Dropped by the local Tesco's and proceeded to fill it up. Got back in the car, and was still showing empty. Spent 10 minutes convincing the attendant that there must be something wrong with the pump and they refunded my money. Got home, on the tinternet and found that virtually all 911's do this.. :embarassed: The car has to be locked and the reopened for the gauge to read correctly. Oh boy did I feel like a complete plank..
"No way, the gauge can't be wrong, are you insane this is a 911, it's made in GERMANY!!"..
:undecided: :embarassed:

i can't remember which way round it is but you can put one in one engine and get away with it, but the other proper f00ks it up.
EDIT:
just found out which way its is, apparently a diesel can "run" on a 50:50 mix where as a little bit of diesel in a petrol with f00k your life up

Anyone ever done it before? Come on own up lol
Closest I got to it was sticking the diesel pump into the car about to press it when I realised, lucky. My mind was obviusly somewhere else.

OK I'll fess up.. :embarassed: I managed to stick around 10 litres or so of diesel in my MG BGT V8 I used to own before my temp brain fart came to an end. Luckily the tank was empty, so I filled it to the brim with Super unleaded. Had the occasional slight misfire, but after 50 miles filled it to the brim again with Super and it went away without any major dramas. If you managed to 1/2 fill or worse fully fill a petrol car with diesel you'll have to drain the tanks. Otherwise bye bye engine.

day i picked up my MKIV the idiot selling it to me stuck £15 worth of petrol in it.....what followed was a comedy of errors on his part as he left me and my missus at a nearby cafe whilst he ran home to pick up his low loader.
He returned in a BMW M3 convertaible to tell us that he couldn't start the truck; battery was flat. he phoned his girlfriend to go fetch his battery charger and dropped us off in the middle of Yate. An hour later he phones to say 'got the car up on the truck and the fuel is draining out'
picked me up about 30 minutes later after having stuck £40 of diesel back in. drove the 70 miles and didn't miss a beat; i then invioced him the £60 for changing the fuel filter

Thats not as bad as my mom who waited 3 hours at a shopping mall cos her GTI started pinging and the engine light came on purely cos after a year of ownership the coolant was low and the car was warning her. She refused to drive the car 2km to our house

Diesel in a petrol and your screwed from the off as Diesel is heavier than petrol and sinks to the bottom and straight into the system.
If you put petrol in a diesel you are still screwed. It just takes a little longer for the petrol to be pulled into the system as it will float on top of the diesel.

i have never made the diesel petrol mistake but i have run out of fuel on two occasions. Just out of pure lazyness. I couldnt be bothered to get out of the car and fill up so i tried to make it home from town, came to a juddering hault about half way home! gutted!
I managed to get 37.6 miles on £5 of fuel yesterday, when i set off home again it was below the red and just above the white but i wasnt prepared to put any more fuel in it as the insurance ran out yesterday. made it home ok though!

lol I have a phobia of running out of petrol. It scares me sh!tless !
Soon as the light comes on, I'm there filling her up.

Just keep a spare gallon in the boot. No more phobia

In a diesel, if you put petrol in and you have a 50:50 mix your ok. You just have to keep adding more diesel to dilute the petrol.
-
A farmer dude I know puts a little bit of petrol in his tractor to thin the diesel out a bit - that's some crazy shit!

why would you want to thin it out? is he running some crazy bio mix or something?
