Title: Sticky Clutch-? Please advise

Hello all-just managed after many years to get hold of a smart 88 gti-----problem is-----sometimes the clutch pedal stays down and slowly rises,is this a common problem ? do you think just a sticky cable or new clutch req ?----no other problems at all--With thanks pete.

Might be the pressure plate wearing out but you could take the clutch cable off to see how freely it runs through the sleeve its in. I hung mine up in the garage and poured oil down through the sleeve and now its nice and smooooooooth  :wink:

clutch release bearing / arm maybe? the little arm can crack and cause these symptoms afaik.

Yeah, I just replaced the clutch release arm on mine as it was causing probs, then cracked. Worth having it checked though while you can still drive it to a garage. I paid aboit £80 to have mine replaced. Hope this helps you.

Cheers all-removed cable today,hung it up sprayed some magic (wd40) through it and replaced --and working fine now-had no idea just a sticky cable could cause so much grief----!! Thanks.

New cable isn't too much, WD won't fix it forever :)
