i think most of them wont insure a car before 1992 to be honest as i tried this with my mates mk2 when i was going to take it to its mot

there are a few companies out there that do it, just google "temporary car insurance" and "short term car insurance" + "daily car insurance" etc and you should get plenty come up (ignore us if we come up as we have stopped doing temporary car insurance now).
It can sometimes complicate things if its not your car and/or if the car is already insured elsewhere though.

Then you need a Short Term Car Insurance (http://shorttermcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/) plan for the above situations. These plans are perfect for situations when you have to drive your car or someone else would be driving your car for a few days. The plans can be bought for periods ranging from one day to almost a month and can be renewed many times in a year. The premium charges will be on a per day basis and therefore would be saving a lot of your insurance costs. So, why pay more for a yearly cover plan when you can pay as you go with a temporary plan?
