Cool.
I'll have to see if I can record that one then.

I've got some other car stuff on computer too, like the Fifth Gear feature on the Mk1 and Mk2 Golf.

I managed to record onto VHS, but unfortuneately, at the moment my channel 4 reception is a bit rubbish.
I'll try to stick them into avi or mpg and see what they look like.

I just set the tape running at the end of the Channel 4 News, so made sure I got it.
Bit odd though that all those VW adverts were in the breaks of a programme about restoring a Ford (albeit a racing Model T). There were plenty of other car adverts in the other breaks too.

Right then, I've edited to a nice quality AVI divx file, the size for the entire ad is about 23Mb, I've also broken in down into individual adverts for 1979, 85, 96, 01 and 2004 - these are approx 4 to 5Mb each.
Problem is that I am out of webspace! Does anyone have access to about 25Mb that I can upload to?

cheers

Rich

I notice a few people say that they'll record it onto their computer, then upload it for us to download. I just want to know how you get the video from the TV onto your computer?

Alrighty then, I'm not going to get chance to sort any webspace for a few days, but I have been able to upload to something called 'iDisk' which I use for work. I've copied the instructions below, I'd use the Windows 98 details for Win98 and ME, and the Windows 2000 details for Windows 2000 and XP (I wouldn't bother downloading the XP iDisk Utility unless you really need to)

Once I get chance, I will use some traditional webspace, unless someone else would like to now I've supplied the vids:

If you're using Windows XP, use iDisk Utility for Windows XP to open someone's Public folder. To download iDisk Utility for Windows XP, go to www.mac.com, and click .Mac Downloads.

If you're using Windows 2000, open My Computer, choose Map Network Drive from the Tools menu, then click "Web folder or FTP site." Enter the following as the location to add: http://idisk.mac.com/richardshore-Public?

If you're using Windows 98, open My Computer, double-click the Web Folders icon, then double-click Add Web Folder. Enter the following as the location to add: http://idisk.mac.com/richardshore-Public?

Enjoy!!

*** Remember you need dixv codecs installed ***

To record video from the TV onto computer you need either a TV card or video capture card in your computer.
Personally I use Matrox video capture cards, but most of the manufacturers make them. ATI have the Radeon All In Wonder and Nvidia have the VIVO (Video In Video Out) models. If you have a laptop you can get USB capture devices instead.
You can even buy Freeview and Satellite TV cards.

Connect a VCR or a TV aerial to these cards, then use the software that comes with them to record to the computer's hard disk.
If you need to edit them, then you'll need some other software.

That's about it. Not very complicated.

I managed to download all the adverts from your iDisk. I couldn't get it to connect from Windows 2000, so I used the Web Folders on my Win98 computer instead. But they all work fine. Shame they're not higher quality.
I could stick them on WinMX if people wanted or perhaps on some of my webspace.

Oh yeah, I also found some of them on the website: www.vwvids.co.uk (http://www.vwvids.co.uk) that someone linked to somewhere.
