Title: rear light wiring ??
Post by: VW_KAL on 29 February 2004, 13:27
Hello,

I was just changing some bulbs at the rear as my passenger side rear fog light and brake light was not working (possibly due to the bloody lamp casing leaking and it was full of condensation, when am I gonna sort out these niggly Golf problems, I waste all my weekend & my life trying to iron them out!!!) and I noticed that the passanger side rear lights have five wire connector and the driver side side has a six wire connector. I checked my the bulbs and they were fine. When you turn on your rear fog lights do both sides light up? I havent got anyone here that has a golf i can check on so any feed back will be appreciated! i was just wondering because the passanger rear side has five wires it may not use the fog ligt on that side?

The rear lights only have the fog light on one side but its possible to mod the other light and put a bulb in so you have 2 fully working rear fog lights. I have done this mod and it works perfectly.

Yep.  Definitely only meant to have driver-side rear fogs as standard.  It actually says this in the Mk4 User-manual.

Thanks for the info, Gary, on getting both sides working!
