Hi all, I've just joined this forum. Quickly flicking through, I think I'm old enough to have fathered most of you, so hope you'll excuse an old fart joining in. I wondered whether there are any R32 owners amongst you. I bought one of the first 5dr jobs last May and without doubt it's the most exhilarating car I've ever driven, though that's not saying much considering my previous cars such as Volvo 850, Espace, Galaxy, Xantia (oh the shame), etc..... The ride is great (i.e. stiff), however I think it may be too hard for the rest of the body. I'm getting a few niggling rattles and creaks (the car, that is - not me), the most annoying of which is very noticeable and distracting, somewhere behind the centre air vents in the console. The supplying VW dealer has tried and failed three times to cure this now. So, the real reason for this post was to try and find out if this is a common problem with R32's or indeed with other MkIV Golf's. Of course, if I've got music or radio on, the rattle is drowned out - but I often like to drive in peace, and part of the reason I bought the R32 was the Golf reputation for build quality.

I agree, Let the dealer sort it out under warranty. Keep bugging them and they'll soon sort it. ;)

Welcome!
You should defo try and get this sorted out by the dealer; A car as new as yours shouldn't be squeaky!
I've got a '99 like Kniterider and mines as quiet as a (non-squeaking mouse).
;)
Rich.

Thanks, guys. Will definitely grind down the dealer on this until it's fixed, I've got more determination than him. Will threaten getting VW UK involved if it's not sorted this time. A couple of incidentals, if I may...
1. Great pic of the Mexico. It was a close run thing in the far off days of the Mexico / RS1800 / RS2000 whether I devoted my life to them or girls (guess what won).
2. I've got a pic of my R32 (jpeg). If I could easily tag it to my profile, I would, but it seems I have to stick it on the web somewhere - is this correct?
3. In an earlier thread, someone wondered whether there would be a follow-on to the R32. The answer is almost definitely yes, my spies tell me Wolfsburg already has a MkV R40 as a CAD model, though they may make it an R42 instead. Should move pretty well! Don't know yet whether they're thinking R50 with the W10 diesel from the Touareg!
