im 21 got 8 points and a driving without due care ban (6 months) got a golf mk5 gti 2.0t
cheapest quote i got was £2500, went on privalige web site and did a quote.
guess how much £730!!!!!
happy with that!!!!!!!!!!

That is VERY cheap!
Only thing is, i notice on the other thread you said its under your dads name? Be a little carefull insuring like this, a lot of insurers will not pay out in a claim or will cancel a policy if they think it is a "fronted" risk (ie your car but insured under parents name to get it cheaper).
If you are the registered owner and/or main driver of the car this must be disclosed even if you are down as the named driver on the policy.
Also i would probably get in touch to double check the quote, in my experience of online quotes they are often unreliable and can change when you ring up to pay (hence why i tell people to ring us even if the have had a quote from our website).
If you have done all of the above and it all checks out then happy days, thats a blinding deal which i doubt we could even get down to (we cannot insure children as named drivers on their parents policy unless they are over 25, only in their own name)!

yea ive done all the above and all checks out!! so im laffin

i thought with privellage you have to of built up 4 years no claims

Sorry, I just don't buy it. they've definitely got something wrong there.
There's people on here who're 21 with no points and no ban who're getting quoted £1500 and more on older Mk2/Mk3 GTIs. No way in hell would you get a legit quote for that much on a mk5 GTI. The car is worth more & is considerably faster and on paper you're a much bigger risk than they are (not doing character assassination here, just no points Vs 8 points and a 6 month ban?)
Even with it being under your dad's name, most insurers are wise to that. I suspect the little detail of you being on there at all has somehow slipped through the net there..
I bet if you need to make a claim you'll find they won't honour it.

But then there are 20 year olds like me paying 500 quid. I find that there is no logic with insurance, some people try to rape you, some offer prices that seem stupid in comparison to other cars/people. It is all ever so slightly f**ked up if you ask me!

I got a very good quote on fully comp cheaper than 3rd party! wtf?? LOL anyways I might see what Cobra system I have then cancel the admiral one and get privaledged!
-
Alot of people say now days its working out cheaper too go fully comp in the long run, also having a high Voluntary excess reduces your quote. In the end its down to spending time asking for quotes from lots of insurances really, these "we search over 30 company's" are pretty rubbish as when you find the one you want then go to apply for it the price goes up! Plus you do get offered a better deal if you deal with said company 1 on 1.
Ive just done a quote for myself, i have 6 points for no insurance (its sh!t how it says driving while uninsured, i wasnt even in the car, it was parked on the road) and ive no no claims, £600. its steep, i can get cheaper and im 31 yrs old so how kids younger than me with worse license can get a better deal is beyond me but i wont stop looking.

There is logic to it (sort of), trust me!
Everyone is different and it all depends on your circumstances eg occupation, annual mileage, postcode, driving history etc etc.
The line "mine cost me xxx" etc when people are comparing is an insurance brokers nightmare as it totally differs from person to person.
Also different insurance companies often have their own target market which can again vary the quotes a lot - a lot of our rates are specialised to cater for VW's, modded cars and enthusiasts/club members etc (as well as all the other makes we cater for) so we will be a lot more competitive on this type of thing than say "Mr average on his Ford Mondeo".
The rates can also vary based on how your account performs with each given Underwriter eg how much business you place with them, claims ratios etc. You could realistically ring 20 different brokers and get 20 different quotes all underwritten by the same underwriter!
Hope that makes some sense of it.

No offence and dont mean to sound rude but that sounds bollok$. I agree with Mooby, something has gone wrong somewhere along the lines, a date of birth is wrong, a number of years driving date is wrong or something. There is just no way its that cheap.
Good luck making a claim !
