right trying to fit my coilovers to the front of my car, ive got brand new top mounts and want to put them on, but i need a special tool or peg spanner? is there anyway i can get round this, no where near me tool shop wise knows what a peg spanner is and the vw dealership cant get me the tool, is there a reason this nut is used? could i not just use a nylock nut?
-
please help, my cars in bits and i need it for work, old ytop ,mounts and suspension is knackered so cant put that back on
-
You got no pic to give an idea, but if its anything like what I had to do, I got a socket the same size as the nut, then cut the top of the socket so an open ender spanner would fit and turn the socket.
That let me hold the top of the strut with an allen key which went through the top of the socket.
-
you can do this what the last post says...the allen key is 7mm. u can also hold the strut from underneath with a pair of good mole grips then use a ratchet and undo the bolt that way ull have to jerk it a bit but it shud come undone. the other way is a screw driver and a hammer and whack it round not advisable but it works trust me.......
-
no not that one, once the shock is removed and you take the spring off, theres a nut, but its not a nut its round with two slots in it
-
you can tap it round like said above
-
Yeah what he says
Tap it round on one side with a screwdriver to unscrew it. You got the spring clamped?
-
dont need the spring clamped with my coilovers, is that what you guys have done in the past then? this isnt the one that holds the srut to the car im talking about, the one that holds the top mount and spring on the strut, surely it has to be tight and just tapping it with a screwdriver wouldnt do that?
