Title: New Mp3 rcd 300 Question
Post by: John007 on 13 September 2007, 13:56
My car has come equiped with the new mp3 compatable head unit.
I can change the track put can't figure out how to change the folder.
The instruction are for the standard rcd 300 that doesnt have mp3 function.
I have pressed every button to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that means it can now read mp3 enabled CDs in the CD drive.

You arn't getting it confuesed with the iPod adaptor?

I think you are getting conffused as TT said.

MP3 ready means that it will play MP3 CD's (which are realllllly good imo)

The iPod adapotor I have had no personal experience with, but have read from other posts that you cant change the folder. Which sucks.

No I am not getting confused,

If you burn an mp3 cd and say drop 8 albums onto one disk the idividual albums are stored as individual folders containing however many individual tracks.

The unit plays the tracks within folder one and repeats them after it has finished.

It wont allow you to shift to album 2.

If you burn a cd with 100 tracks in one folder it will go through them in sequence.

The only thing is the display says folder 1 track 1 and displays the full name of the song.

It just seems funny that you cant select another folder (album)

Not seen a HU that allows you to do that, normally have to burn into the root folder. Suppose aftermarket systems can do it?

Oh right.

I dont think it works like that on MP3 cds

You just gotta make one big CD (thats what I do anyway), unless anyone points out diffrently

Your right there john007! The unit should play through all the folders. I remember seeing it as iflicked through the instruction manual. not sure exactly how it works as i have yet to burn some mp3 cds (chucked all mine in the bin as I thought the ipod adaptor would solve this problem). But im pretty sure it displays how the tracks/folders should be burnt onto the disk. I will check n post back.

In addition to which can i just add that the ipod adapter is sh1te!!! Dont waste your time on this.. the only positive is that it comes with the arm rest for free. Im sick of listening to the same songs over n over.. puts you right back to the problem with cds. I have resorted to just putting the window down n listening to the v6. Not looking forward to winter!

I have sorted out this dilema,

I couldnt change folder as there was only 1 folder that was ripped as an mp3 the others were wma.

Put another disk in that is all mp3 files and it gives you the opton on the top and bottom left hand side silver buttons to change the folder/album that you want to listen too.

Its not a bad unit for a standard although it is coming out in a couple of weeks time to be replaced with a 7" touchscreen DVD player.

I agree that the VW iPod is very limited in functionality and I have the factory Sat Nav/iPod set-up in my armrest. The iPod will play up to 6 playlists in alphabetical order (first 5 playlists, then the total iPod content as playlist no. 6, it shows tracks numerically, 1 - 99, then it resets at 1 -99 again, but continues playing tracks in the order of the iPod). You can easily move from track to track, especially if you have the MFSW so you don't have to take your eyes off the road

Unless you are driving all over Europe without stopping, then even a 1gb nano will have enough music for most journeys. I find it easy enough to review/amend my playlists on iTunes when I get sick of hearing the same tracks again. Definately better than carrying loads of CD's in the car.

There again, you could always get a Phatnoise or the new RNS510 Sat Nav with an internal hard drive of 30gb or so

Finally got the photos done and here they are. Just a sample of a few of the screens that control the IPOD.

First one simply shows the options for the audio/video source -I tap the screen and it takes me there.

This is the screen it takes you to - sorry it is a bit blurry :embarassed:
Shows the album label and three types of info of your own choice about the track.

The next two pictures show the options you can go into to select tracks

The next photo shows you what you see when you go into the playlist screen. You can either tap the up/down arrows to go through the list alphabetically or if you want to you can tap the bar to skip to a point on the list. Selecting the arrow at the side of the playlist starts that playlist.

The last photo shows a similar photo of the album section.

The set-up is really easy to use and a millenia better than the standard set-up.

does that include new speakers and amp or are we just talking the head unit?? I am quite impressed with the standard sound from the system and thats something that I dont think i would want to upgrade. It sounds just right for the car.. Which leads me onto the question does the R32 have any extra sound insulation from the std golf? As my brother has the GTtdi and Im quite sure his stereo does not sound quite as good as mine! or maybe i am just a little biased
