Clarksons view on the R8:

new way to pursue the favourite sport of British aristocracy - fox hunting. (Now it is fox flattening, I guess)

Joke:

Prince Charles receives an invite to a funtion.  He asks his mummy (HRH Queen Elizabeth II) for some advice.

PC: Err, mommy, I've received an invite to a Friends of the Earth doooo, in Merther Tydfyl <excuse the poor spelling>.  Any advice for me?

HRH:  Where 'the fox hat'

PC:  OK, thank you mommy.

Charlie boy turns up to the function a few weeks later, remembering what he thought his wise mother told him to wear.  He appeared after his formal introduction, wearing a dead fox on his head.  He received severe consternation from the gathered guests.  He subsequently asked his aide what was wrong, and was duly told the FotE were greatly insulted with his dead fox head-dress.

Upon returning to Bucks Palace, he grabbed a moment with HRH.

PC: Mommy, you know that Friends of the Earth function I discussed with you?

HRH: Yes.

PC:  Well, apparrently, I caused great offence!

HRH:  Why was that, Charles?

PC:  Well, when I told you about it, you told me to wear my Fox hat!

HRH:  No Charles, I didn't tell you to wear any hat at all.  You told me it was in Merther Tydfil - or somewhere, and I specifically remember asking you "Where the fcuk's that" ?

I thought that was Manchester speak!

Anyway, has anybody seen any on the roads, or even driven one?  I saw quite a few in Ingoldstadt last May - oddly, I actually saw more R8s than I saw RS4s - wierd!

The R8s were being driven by grannies, because I had to turn up my hearing aid to the max to hear them, unlike the RS4 Avant which was getting some beans alongside me, whilst Mrs Tamer and I were having a gentle walk in a quaint town in southern Bavaria!

Saw one at Inters
Also saw one in Sheffield. Noticed it as it had the lovely front lights on

is it just me or does the R8 have the same rear lights as the new Lambo Murci LP640  :undecided:

still an awesome looking car and much more modern and fresh than the 911

R8 is an awsome car, i am trying to get my mums boyfriend to get one, i drove a 911 today though and have told him to test drive both as this thing was the best thing i think i will ever drive. Only thing is the r8 has a 2 year wating list, porsche is less!

Agreed the R8 is some car - much better in the flesh when you see it. That said, I can't believe it would be better than a 911 to drive. No contest there IMHO. Audi have not yet made a car with the desirability or the dymanics of a Porsche. I've owned and driven both marques over the years and whilst the current Audi build quality and design is superb, the sheer Porsche driving experience is unmatched by a very long way.

Yeah thats the problem. Do you go for looks and lose some of the driving brilliance of the 911 or make a (very very) small compramise on looks for the 911 and ge the best drivers car you can buy! He has seen the r8 but the dealers wanted a £1500 deposit for a test drive as they are getting too many dreamers in and he didnt want to commit as he has just got a brand new bmw 325i convertable with loads of extras (its lovely!)
Thats why the R8 is apealing as after two years he wants to change so it works out nicely!

£1500 for a test drive - they are taking the pi$$. Do a search on an internet site such as Pistonheads or go to any good independent dealer/broker - there are always cars for sale, but personally I would always go for a 991 C2S or a Lambo in preference to an Audi. Better residuals and motoring heritage :smug:
That said, Audi has made big steps with their Le Mans and road c ar development programme over recent years, but becoming a legend takes a bit longer

I had a R8 go past at full chat the other day. Sounded great.

We had just been to the launch of the S5 the day before and the R8 was my sons favourite (he has good taste for a 5 year old, mind you Land Rovers & tractors feature highly on his favourite list). He did sit in every other car in the show . Next day he even recognised it on the front cover of Evo.

A couple of days later he said "that was a posh garage we went to at the weekend."

Why is that I replied?

Because they gave us some nice food and drink for free

They offered me a test drive in the R8 that they had outside. Only problem couldnt leave the little one at the garage all on his own.    Don't say that I could have.  Didn't have the missus with me and I am a responsible parent

I was like oh great thanks  Then it sunk in only two seats. Mind you me and the little one could have gone for a test drive ourselves ------------------------Into the sunset.... :smug:

Hmmm . . . not really, because they insist on using the horrendous auto transmission, and everybody knows that Audis' slushbox is one of the worst.

I've seen it in flesh several times, both on the move and in a show room. Yeah, it has shapes, a bit futuristic, but nothing special, really, just another sports car. A yellow Gallardo you really NOTICE.
