Title: Edition 30 VW Sat Nav Retrofit - Please Help?
Post by: HA54SYM` on 12 September 2007, 17:47
Hi all,

Want to try and retro fit he VW sat nav system to our edition 30.

We have a stock RCD300 (chrome button type) and want to get a nice VW sat nav option in to look OEM.

What style or model would have been fitted to the Edition 30, and can someone point me in right ebay seller direction?

What is the difference between CD and DVD versions, or are the newer units all DVD ones now?

I'm not over fussed if you can't listen to a CD whilst in Sat Nav mode, but can you listen to radio?

Is there a system that you can play CD's and Sat Nav at same time now?

I have the highline computer, but do you need Multifunction steering wheel too?

So many questions, but I couldn't find a post that answered them all.

Thanks

Dave

Hi all,

The chrome/silver buttons were fitted on model year 2007, as identified by a "7" as the 10th digit of the VIN.

The DVD version.

Sorry, dunno about fleabay!

What is the difference between CD and DVD versions, or are the newer units all DVD ones now?

The CD versions have just one country on disk, whereas the DVD versions have all of western Europe.  AFAIK, the CD version was only fitted to 05 model year and earlier.[/quote]

I'm not over fussed if you can't listen to a CD whilst in Sat Nav mode, but can you listen to radio?

Yup, indeed and active radio tuner is essential for the SatNav to search for TMC signals.

Is there a system that you can play CD's and Sat Nav at same time now?

Yup.  If you do want to listen to CDs, then get the CD changer which fits in the armrest.

I have the highline computer, but do you need Multifunction steering wheel too?

Nope.  The MFSW is pretty useless IMHO.

So many questions, but I couldn't find a post that answered them all.

There is also a new version coming out. It is to have a hard drive based nav system and a touchscreen.

This seller has been mentioned positively in forum postings before:

and the new RNS510 touchscreen here:

Bit more pricey though  but it does look the biz.
