Today I saw a guy driving a GTI wearing a woollen hat, I thought these type of guys would stay happily in their Type R's, we all know what type of guy I'm talking about 'the modder'. Sadly its making me reconsider my purchase of a Mk5 GTI next year....nooooooooo!!!!
Sorry if I've offended anyone on this forum (I doubt I have) but I'd love to hear your general thoughts on this and as to whether or not this will have a negative affect of the new GTI's image (which is brillant at present)

at least so far I haven't seen any young guy in a baseball cap driving a GTI. I have a thing for drivers in BB caps. :lipsrsealed:

I drive my GTI with my hoody on...when ever i do drive my GTI with a hoody jumper thingi....its all about style man...every one knows what the car is capable of ;) (obviously depends on the driver :grin:)

By "woollen hat" do you mean the tight-fitting tea cosy look (minus pom-pom), or the "I'm just off to climb Ben Nevis" look (with pom-pom)? You can probably tell I'm not a regular reader of FHM :nerd:

The ones people around here tend to wear are the ones without pom pom's....pom pom's is something you tend to see girls with i guess....and the tight fitting ones make your head look like a...protection thingi used for sexy timmeeeee :laugh:

Oh you think i am trolling! Not me mate. I cant stand trolls. I have 2200 posts on civictype-r.co.uk and trust me i cant stand people that troll!
I also have stated many times i like the gti, although it is quite funny what he said as it just backs up my stereo type of the gti owner i.e. older (scared of people modding the same car as them lol) Quite sad as the gti is a perfect start to mod as its engine, chassy (sp) etc etc are all superb!

LOL - I think you need a reality check... I assume you are joking when you say someone wearing a wooly hat in the car you want would be enough to put you off... what about how it drives???? Surely that is one of the most important things?!?!
Also, surely you are comfortable enough with your own self image, to not believe you would be adversely affected by any negative image associated with a wooly hatted driver?
Sorry if I have misinterpreted a "jokey" post - but seriously I mean come on...
Also, for the record what is wrong with modding? I don't, nor ever have modded, but I do plan to add an Edition 30 front and colour code the sides... but Rob-Mk5 has modded his very tastefully and so has RedRobin and neither of them conform to a "type"... they are miles away from some of the excessive max-power inspired trash...
Anyway... just my tuppence worth.

NORTHERNER ofcourse I was joking about not buying one due to what I saw today! I've driven a new GTI with a DSG box and it would take a whole lot more than poor headgear to put me off a purchase when it comes to selling my GTTDI!
As for modding I think tastfully colour coding etc etc is excellent - I was referring to the max power look which I don't go for at all personally - but each to their own and all that!
This is turning into a nice tread - very surprised - keep the posts coming!

It was no lookey-likey I'm afraid, it was exactly the same as your TeddyKGB, 18" Monzas the lot - I'll send you your yellow woolley hat in the post!! Only messing (lovely GTI you have there too Teddy and with DSG too - I'm jealous!)

I bought a t-shirt and jacket with GTI logo on them. THese are official VW items. But there were no GTI pants. So that is what I wear - t-shirt and jacket, but no pants. Thank God for tartan! It feels great under my bare bottom, and it does not stick like the leather would. :smiley:

Even thou summer is finishing here and its still hot tonight iv promised myself to take out a few wooly hats and take pics of myself driving lol....just to like irritate the dude that brought up this topic xD
P.S....remember u do get like PRADA wooly hats well worth over £150 so...it all depends on the wooly hat i guess :)
