hiya people i am new on hear, just want 2 know wot is best a gti or a gtdti 150bhp??
-
as in the petrol GTI and the GT TDI 150??
I'd go for the TDI; similar performance with better MPG; Ridge will be along shortly i'm sure to champion it a bit more as he has one. I've got the TDI 130

lol
GT TDI 150 without a doubt, you get the same performance as the petrol 1.8T (150) but you can get atleast an extra 200 miles from the tank.
the 1.8T 180bhp is quite abit quicker than the TDI 150 but for £500 you can get a re-map to almost 200bhp.
if you plan to tune the car then the petrol has a better scope, as the TDI can only go to about 270
if you're doing say 12K + a yeah then get the TDI if you're doing less or want something to tune then look at the petrol. I personally would go for the TDI, but thats what i drive

nice 1 4 that m8 think i will be goin 4 a gt dti, u think u can pick them up 4 around 5000?? should be geting 1 after xmas, just wanted 2 know a bit about them
-
if you can find one for 5K then it will be an absolute piece of sh!te unless someone has seriously undervalued their car!! i would have thought a decent 130 would start at around 6K and a 150 around 6.5K - 7K :undecided:
-
i'd be very surprised to find one for £5k
like rhyso says expect to pay around the £7k mark depending on options age and mileage.
best bet is the start looking now so that you can get an idea of what you'll be getting for your money.
mileage isn't really an issue with the derv's as long as they have the full service history, i'd expect them to have about 80-90 on the clock as the average driver of these would have been doing about 15K a yeah. The 150 was available from 2001 on.
also if you want to spend a little more you could try and find an anniversary (limited to 900 TDI's and 900 1.8T 180) but i'd expect to pay closer to 10K
if you've only got £5k to spend its probably worth considering the 115bhp version (can be mapped to 155 odd) or you could get a decent 1.8T 150 for that (but then thats petrol )
-
bet da 115bhp is a bit slow thou :undecided:?? thanks 4 that m8 i will have a look around a see wots goin. could push me self 2 6k.
-
with the 115 you're looking at 0-60 in 10 seconds, which is actually quicker than the 2.0 petrol GTI
obviously its not that quick however the 115 is meant to be the most economical of all the GT TDI's
-
thats alright then lol!! there is a 130bhp isnt there?? :undecided: wot year did they make the 130bhp??
-
from 51 plate onwards i believe; mine's on a 51 plate :afro:
some will tell you its the best diesel engine (well i will anyway!) it goes like stink and returns 50mpg easily; i'm currently avergaging 51mpg over a tank doing 40 miles a day on a mixture of a-roads and dual carrigeway.
decent one can be had for around 6K :afro:
click the link under my sig for an idea of what can be done mod wise lol
-
nice 1, 4 that m8 i will have a keep looking around, i will take a look at urs nw!!

LMAO
the 130 gives you mix of added economy and performance over the 115
the 150 gives obviously gives you a faster car, and you get a few extras as standard however they cost more and the insurance is higher.
regarding economy i normally average 52-55 from a tank which lasts me ~ 550 miles
i personally thing the 150 bhp is still the best VAG diesel lump, esp when you look at the performance / economy against the MK5 TDI's
eg the MK5 GT TDI 170 has an extra 20 bhp & 30 Nm of torque but is only .4 sec quicker 0-60 and 2 mile quicker on the top end, and for these gains in performance you get 5 less miles to the gallon, which in my opinion is exactly progress.
what car have you got at the moment?
i expect you'd be happy with either the 130 or the 150

55 mpg  i took mine down the motorway to blackpool running at 75-80 mph all the way and it was at 41.5 mpg out of a 150 gt tdi but when i tinker on the country roads i get 45-48. if i got a remap would i see a better fuel comsuption or worse ?

sounds like your consumption is down a little, i have got a green air filter and cruise on mine though which improve economy.
a re-map will improve economy whilst cruising eg steady speed, but when you rag it you'll probably drink more.
best and worst from mine are 62.9 run to work and 25.6 country lanes
-
got a ford puma at the moment m8, want get rid of it cus its 2 small, plus diesel will keep on runing 4 ever , better mpg. think i will be goin 4 da 130 bhp, then get it chipped
-

Good choice :afro:
-
a chipped 130 is going to be quicker than a puma too!
miles more more, miles more to the tank, and miles better build quality
good luck in the search for your GT TDI!

Something not right there. I average at least 50 mpg with my 110 and would expect the 150 to be around the same at that speed on a motorway run.
I'd start off with looking at servicing i.e. when was the air filter last changed?
-
..for all those who are considering getting a TDI over a petrol, the 150TDI has more torque (236 lbs/ft) than an Impreza Turbo, Clio V6 and Porsche Boxster S. The car is absolutely amazing on the motorway, it just doesn't stop pulling. You'll leave most drivers behind. And it's quiet - 90 mph in 6th gear = 2500 rpm.
Go get one!
