Title: how quick would a 1.6 8v driver be flat out?

seriously though , this can vary depending on age of car, mileage and condition of engine
road and weather conditions, loading of car etc.....

very fast if you dropped it out of an aeroplane at 20,000 feet.

hmmmm, wonder what the terminal velocity of a golf driver is......

i no it does over 100 cus iv had in at like 105 but is there much more left 114000 miles

118mph out of a 1.3 g reg . 120 thousand on the clock aswell, haha

so thats:

terminal velocity = sqrt(2mg/pACd)

where m = 92.4N  (assuming 907kg kerb weight)
         g = 9.81
         p = density of air = 1.2kg/m3
         A = cross sectional area ( i can only find ffrontal area) = 1.91
         Cd = drag coeff = 0.36

therefore:

terminal velocity = sqrt(1812.888/0.82512) = sqrt(2197.12) = 46.87ms

46.87ms = 104mph

so you can actually drive your car faster than you can drop it.  :nerd:

ive had two, they both pushed 120 on the speedo, probably more like 110 tho

Had a touch over 110mph in my girlfriends 1989 1.6 Driver with 90,000 on the clock. This was on a large private road  :wink:

does top speed really matter tho? instant ban doin over a ton anyways..my mates driver did 115mph aswel but thats on old golf clocks so probs like 105-110mph .. previous car, 106 1.1  :cool: did 110mph.. :drool:

It depends on the kind of driver i think Russ

Some of my mates are crazy about 0-60 times, few others like the mid range punch from a Turbo and few like top speeds. Im a fan of top speeds. Yes I know its against the law and is bloody dangerous to try a top speed but the adrenaline rush is great! Think the best is my mates Escort Cossie @ 377bhp. I had this car for 2 weeks earlier this year whilst he was in the States. Once the needle is on 170mph and the Road Angel is showing 159mph the adrenaline is pumping faster than the first time I injected steroids........great buzz.

Must add that the above top speed was on a private air field!
