Title: wass that bit do?
Post by: converge on 07 September 2007, 20:03
ive got a 91 8v.  it's my first gti so i wasn't sure how well it should go and was playing with it earlier saw that something looked missing on the part that the throttle cable goes round on top of the inlet manifold.  i moved the other part (that wasn't hooked up) and saw it touches a solenoid that must be something to do with the maf sensor?  so not being a bodger at all i just tied the two parts together with a cable tie  now i can hear the solenoid working and more air being sucked in.  now it seems to go better but i just dunno what it does?

sounds like the wide open throttle switch to me?  Take the cable tie off and open the throttle using the cable bit and you'll see that that bit actually does move ;)

The 2 halves of the throttle linkage do move independantly of each other if you grab the wrong bit
Edit: I think we need pics though ;)
