Just had my ED30 in for a fault with the door card. They had it yesterday, stripped the fittings to find they need to order a new door card. Anyway.... had to take it back at dinner today as they couldn't find a part number so had to strip it again...
JUST been at picked it up.
It's been driven for 5 miles and the average mpg is showing 12.2
Range has dropped 40 miles (It was full when I took it)
I'm absolutely fuming that some oink has thrashed my car, it didn't need to be driven 0.5 miles, let alone thrashed for 5!
I'm awaiting a phone call from the Manager.......
What should I expect!

Opps, sounds like someone in the VW garage is gonna be down the Job Centre monday morning

I Know what you mean, I've just picked my car up for the second time from the dealers after it had to have the steering rack replaced. The first time i picked it up and drove it home it started knocking which got worse, so i turned around and took it back and they made me feel like they were doing me a favour having it back
When i picked it up today there was no sorry about that sir, all i got was "would you like to test drive it to make sure you're happy with it this time". When I saw the car there was oil splatters all up the drivers side (not nice on a candy white). When I pointed it out to them they said it wasn't them and must of been there when I brought the car in to them and that was from the service manager.
So I know exactly how you are feeling. They made me feel a real valued customer .

I think that some garages just dont get it.
I took my MKiv for some work doing on the brakes. When I walked round it three of the alloys had been damaged. Not just little chips big gouges on the face of the alloy spokes. I went back in and spoke to the mechanic. Oh that he replied, We dropped a spanner on one and the other two fell over!!!!!! Ye right. Lets just say, you were never going to miss the DEEP gouges in a million years. Why do they keep quiet??? It cost him more to fix the alloys than what I had paid for the work that was done.
Never went back there again. (It wasn't a main dealer.) Mind you as I have said in another post I got two sets damaged by a main dealer also...........
-
Now we know why they need to make £8k per car
For all the numpties that work in some service departments
I must admit that I have never had cause to complain.....yet

Unlikely. They will still be butchering punters cars (probably for many years). Muppets
-
Surely they could have taken it out for a drive then returned to the garage and left the engine running while they performed some checks, which would kill the MPG reading ?
-
good point..........

but if you look at the oringal post it was in for a faulty door card, not an engine problem.......... absolutely no need to drive it 5 miles!
-
Yup, no need for a test drive AT ALL, they'd had it the day before, only took it back cause they couldn't find the part number on the computer!!!
They haven't called yet, Monday will be fun!
-
Let 'em have both barrels

But if he / she complained about vibrations or rattles from the door card surely it is worth a test drive to ensure the car does not still have the same problem after the work has been completed? 5 miles is not far really.
-
About 5 miles is quite normal as a distance for a yest drive and dealers are obliged to test drive according to the work done. How else can a rattle be checked out without test driving?
And how do you know the car was "ragged"? The mpg display on only 5 miles is totally unreliable in coming to a ragging conclusion IMO.
My point is that you can't be so certain of a ragging - Some will and some won't but either way, your car is highly unlikely to be damaged. Not a good habit to rag from cold every day though.
" Mother Superior! Mother Superior! I've just been ragged by St. Michael!!"...
" But, Sister, how do you know?...
":embarassed: It was written on his underpants, Mother".

guys you ARE missing the point, please read before you comment!
Thursday. I took the car in.... no rattle.... interior door card DID NOT FIT and was fowling the window!
They couldn't fix it at the part was broken.
Friday. They phoned me back saying they couldn't find the part number required.. could I take it back so they could pull it to bits again to obtain the part number!
NO NEED FOR A TEST DRIVE>>>>WHAT WOULD THEY BE TESTING!!!!
Before I dropped the car off I had filled her up with fuel and driven to work (a 17 mile journey)
Computer showed 345 miles to fill up when I dropped it off
When I picked her up, the first thing I noticed was this figure was now showing 305 miles??
When I then looked at the trip computer that's when I saw
12.2 mpg
5miles
15 minutes.
Later when I opened the boot I then discovered my tool box and a box full of stuff had MOVED across the boot floor. It's not moved in 5 months!
To bo honest guys, I bought a new car so that I knew how it had been driven. Yes it's only 5 minutes of it's life and Phil's mate took his out the other day and recorded similar figures.
rant over....for now!
-
oh and boy do i remember that trip out!
-
Can't wait to 'rag' mine

i work at a nissan dealership, and the brand new unsold cars get ragged so sum old dear will end up wit a f***ed car. i swear its just to make money, i work in the petrol station and just observe
-
i'm with Simonet on this one, think about it how would you feel if your wife / girlfriend went to get her hair done and the hair dresser bashed down her back door, and painted it white on the way out, before you had.
if i were you i'd be pushing for a full detail eg machine polish the works to make up for the dirt they got on your car.

Im sorry fellas but this is not just common of VW dealers. My dad found major rust on his Merc CLK. It went in under warranty. When we got the car back the controls on the stering did not work, the stereo lights used to constantly flicker when headlights were on (went back n forth 3x and the could not find the fault). When we took it back they told us the stereo fitted did not belong to the car and was actually from an S-class. B00000llocks was my responce as my uncle has the same car as my dads, same stereo. Anyway they refused to accept blame. Had to contact Mercedes UK complains department. Once they had kicked the dealer bollocks in.. low n behold they took the car in and it was fixed within one day!
I learnt a few lessons. Dont buy from a suspect dealer (cough cough mercedes leeds), in addition to which I learnt, save yourself some time and just go straight to the top!
oh yeah and dont buy a benz... rust?? rust?? on a benz??
-
just took my gti in to the dealer for the exact same fault, any way they have to replace a wheel bearling or something, anyway, i reset the milage counter before i dropped it off just to see how far they went.
i picked it up later and it stated 23.8 miles!!!!!!!!!!! WTF !!!!!!!!!! now thats takin the piss,
anyway i left her with no petrol in so they had to fill her up haha.

The Manager from the Dealer phoned me yesterday and to be honest was very good. He listened and agreed and said that he would be "having words" with the technician as this was NOT acceptable. I've left that bit with him, maybe he will sort, maybe he'll just give a slap on the wrist....
He offered me a full tank of fuel but I suggested Long life oil and a filter (he did offer to do the work too) but I said I will do the oil change as I didn't trust them!
I won't be leaving the car with them again :undecided:

Oh, a bit of a result, but you won't really know until you get your car back.

Make sure the oil is 504.00 spec, because I've no doubt they'll try to farm you off with 502.00 oil.
-
Cars already back TT, they haven't had it since!
I've also made sure it IS the 504 stuff, although the service department did say (surely you don't want 5-40w) oh dear....
SO I said, NO its the longlife stuff which is to the 504 standard
We'll see when I go pick up the oil!
