Title: high oil consumption!

my 8v gti is starting to use even more oil i filed it up the other day and already its lost 250ml a quarter!
i did work it out not long ago that it was using 250ml every 90 mile thats giving it some everytime i go out in it....its now on 199.000 nearly 200000 ;D it tends to smoke slightly when really hot but it isnt visible in the rear view mirror......mate says just little puffs at high rev gear changes.. i'm using 10w/40......and i was thinking about changing to a 15w/40 or not long ago i was thinking about having the oil seals done, i was thinking about doing it myself but i dont really have the know how to put the cambelt back on and also i wont be keeping it that long as i'm changing it for a mk 3 or even a vr6 ......

any ideas on how to get this oil consumption down...
i could do the seals but would this cure it......
it still goes like a rocket so i wouldnt of thought it would be the rings.......

Have you tried a compression test?
Chances are the valve stem oil seals are the culprits.
