-
too similar a colour to the chav motor that is the blue oval ST
-
But very popular chav motor, too many of them keep flying past me!!!! Did go on a test drive and i know its a ford but i was impressed!!!! But then i drive an old car so any new performance car will feel good!!!
Im sure theyll sell easy enough, MK6 must be on its way!!! lol
-
Horrible colour, and that's the VW USA website, so I expect it will be US only.

thank god for that

slammed on matt black 19" wheels... i'd have one.

 Only £13,700 ?!!!? No wonder the American GTI boys go straight into heavily modding their cars almost before they're even run in!

??
It says $27,665 on that website.

with the current exchange rate it makes it about £13,700
the cost of living is less over there and they don't get paid as much, plus the $ is really weak and their petrol aka gas is weaker than pi$$, and generally Americans are c*nts

....And at today's exchange rate US$27,665 = £13,732 to the nearest pound.
What is the base price of a stock Mk5 GTI in the UK? About £22,000?? Do you now see my point?
-
So true, my brain had a moment there. lol great post Ridge.
-
thats so cheap even if it is orange!!!!!!
-
All the GTI's over there are that price.. infact the orange one is probably a little more expensive.
When you work out the conversion.. for what we might spend on a new mk5 GTI... you could get a brand new 440bhp Corvette.
-
I think someone on here posted up a video recently, featured this orange GTI and a yank salesman! Was quite funny.... anyone find the link?
-
I saw it a while back on USA ebay, thought it looked ok, but i also think candy white is the best colour GTI

that orange trim inside is  nice that they numbered them on the steering wheel though, unlike the ED30, also the orange with black bumper looks crap IMO. Alloys not too bad, prefer Monzas and pescaras though, also just noticed the spoiler in black..

Does... Moon Roof and xeeeenons bring back any memories?
I remember that video.
The Fharenhiet edition has been around a long time and as far as I know only the Americans get it.... But if you want I can organise you the post on Vw Vortex where you can order the trim pieces for the interior- Should it excite you
-
I saw one in florida 2 days ago, gotta say it did look pretty sweet

it IS for US only. Fahrenheit has been released quite a while ago, so this is stale news.
Looks horrendous ihmo, both the paint and the rims.

probably because Ed30 are NOT limited edition. I mean, they are still being made in Wolfsburg. Well, maybe UK version is limited, with the steering wheel on the wrong side and all..
-
Farenheit model is deffo a US only version.
Pirelli model is the European equivalent and I don't really like the internal styling of that one
Anyone who thinks having a tyre tread as an internal style statement on a seat is losing the plot IMO
Yellow for the Pirelli and Orange for the Farenheit aren't my ideal choice of colours, but at least they get the option. I couldn't even have blue

How can VW justify charging UK customers at least 8k more than in the USA?
Makes me  !
-
When I was in the ukraine a mk3 costs $10000..... imagine the price of a new mk5!!

Yes but most of them are Heffers (coloquial term in USA for fat!!) and need a low cost of living to keep up their fat content and blood pressure

congrats! I had 2 Ukrainian GFs. Ukrainian women are known to be a bit b!tchy, стервозные. Mine were. :lipsrsealed: Now I have Russian GF, she is a bit better. And she notices GTIs just as well as I.
P.S. I was born in Leningrad. Most beautiful city in the whole wide world.

Only detail I can find is in the VW Driver mag and it says:-
Available in both 2 and 4 door versions, the Golf GTI Pirelli will go into production in September, for the continental market, and may well follow for the UK" :nerd:
Anyone with more info, then let us all know.

Cost of living doesn't come into it, the cost price for the car is the same (give or take a few hundred quid for slightly difference specs) wether it's sold in the UK or the USA. It seems that VW make at least 8k extra profit out of every car sold in the UK compared to the USA.

Yes, I agree. US cars tend to have a higher standard spec AND have to be transported 3,000+ miles across the Atlantic and so the profit VW must make on UK cars (tax excepted) must still be immense.
-
with the right rims that would look sweet! dare to be different and all that! sure it would look good in the flesh!
-
No one else a fan of the wheels? I am likening them a lot.

London grammar?

Huh!
The standard GTI in the US has less kit compared to the standard GTI in the UK - 2-zone climate, TPMS, light & rain sensor (for auto headlamps & wipers).
Though that doesn't account for the extra 8k we pay! But then we do get shafted on tax here, and maybe the strong US anti-competition prevention laws have something to do with helping imports! :undecided:

OI !
No, it was this firefox spell checker thing that changed it. Poxy thing.
That is shocking non the less.
-
i looked on ebay at 2007 gtis in america, they are going for like £12,500, with sat nav and leather seats, thats just stupid, how much is it to ship a car and also is it legal? someone could make a shiiiiat load of money.
-
Maybe, but you'll have to live with LHD and may benifit from a remap due to our better fuel.
-
If you was to import it wouldnt you have to pay the extra tax or some bollock$ like that?
-

And remove the speed limiter, as some US states require a 125mph limiter.

....Is it easy to remove?

I don't know!
I never bothered with removing it on my last S4, nor my present RS4 - but then they were known to be a little lax from the supposed 155mph limit. When the B6 S4 was out, genuine top speed tests gave the limiter kicking in at 161mph, and I had 165 showing on mine. Even down some rather, large long and empty hills on the french autoroutes wouldn't get it to budge over that, though on the flipside, it would still pull that going up hills too.
I've had my RS4 upto 172 on the autobahns, but with only 4k on the clock, the engine still felt slightly tight, and not full loosened up.
I do know that Audi, just like all german cars, have very accurate speedos - overreading by 1-3mph. Can't say that for cars from a certain rice country, nor those with a blue oval (though Fords are better than they used to be). :smug:

I disagree. I was doing 230kmh by GPS while it was more like 260 on the speedo (though I did not look so carefully, of course). When I do 140 by speedo, it is 130 by GPS.
-
Me too....My VW speedo has been tested as 13% inaccurate and VW are willing to replace it but will not guarantee better than 10%. As I prefer to use my PogoAlert GPS to read my speed (and previously a Road Angel), I see no point in 'mending' the VW speedo.
-
I have to agree with the speedo reading, TT I think you may be wrong!!??
anyway, started a new post re this and the other issues this will have!
-
I have to agree with the speedo reading, TT I think you may be wrong!!??
Moi - wrong . . . .
Which part of my previous post do you not agree with? If it is the speedo accuracy, then I'm going off the accuracy with my last S4. I regularly checked the speedo against GPS on arrow straight and flat roads, using cruise control to make sure there was no deviation. I only really checked upto 100mph, mainly in Germany and the garlic eating country to its left - and even at an indicated ton on the clock, the GPS was steady at 98. At 80, the GPS read 79. So my S4 was very accurate. I havent tested the RS4 yet, and the GTI has only been tested a couple of times, but I didn't take a great deal of notice, as I was on unfamiliar roads.
There was also another site (the one which tested the horsepower at the wheels - can't remember the www though), and that also reported that the speedos were generally within 2-3 mph at a ton.
