Title: Identifying 1.8 Engine
Post by: Phaeton on 04 September 2007, 16:34
Son has bought a H plate Driver with a 1.8 fitted or so he was told. The big end have started to knock so took one of the shells out, they have the numbes

026707
0.25
12-87
6195
And the VW Audi logo's stamped on it.

Been down to GSF & the local engine shop & they cannot match them up with anything known, even rang VW for what good it did me. The engine shop say if I can get them the engine code they might be able to track them down. Anyone any idea where this code is apparently it's a 2 digit code. Just to add it's not the orginal engine it was suppsed to come out of a MK3.

the engine code should be punched onto a flat on the front of the block, under the 3rd/4th spark plugs, right under the headgasket. its probably caked in crap so get a wire brush on it.

There is a single H on the block between 3 & 4 is that likely to be it?
