Title: DSG Launch Control - be careful
Post by: Teutonic_Tamer on 31 August 2007, 13:32
Those of you who have Launch Control enabled on your DSG, be careful how you use it!

One of the techies at my local stealer told me that the DSG ECU does log the number of LCs - and that they are starting to get a few DSG failures from excessive LC starts.  Weather this is true, or not, it is certainly food for thought.

Why put it in the manual then, if they don't want you to use the feature?

Well, it isn't actually in my '06 manual.  Even the R32 only had it as a supplement.

Anyway, the DSG is still more robust, when compared to the BMW SMG.

I have the supplement in my ED30 handbook.

I have the supplement in my ED30 handbook.

Does it state you are limited to a certain number??

I wonder if the 2008 model year handbooks are any different?

I must say that I'm not tempted to use Launch Control....Unless I was to do a timed quarter-mile.

Apparently you are limited to one 'launch' per week.

On Fridays.

Between 6pm and 9pm.

Unless it's raining.

Or dry.

I don't think that it does, but I will check.

I must say that I'm not tempted to use Launch Control..

Me neither - though I did try it a couple of times on a wet road just before I had new boots fitted.  Not overly impressed, and I doubt any better than a well practiced display of good personal throttle control.  :smug:

Oh, and I did try it on an Audi A3 3.2 quattro DSG, on demo!

..Unless I was to do a timed quarter-mile.

Hmm, that kind of stuff really doesn't float my boat.  To me, a much better benchmark is handling in the twisties!

Are you sure yours is a 2008 model year?  The 10th digit of your VIN will confirm.

My Edition 30 supplement (new) states the following.

"The launch control programme enables maximum acceleration"

"Switch off ESP"

"Depress brake pedal"

"Move selector to position S"

"Depress accelerator until engine revs have reached 3200 rpm"

"Release the foot brake"

"You should always switch on ESP again once the acceleration procedure has been completed"

Priceless!!!

speedynz - what model year build is yours?  I presume you use the "Euro" type of VIN, and not the US type?

I'm not sure, it arrives tommorrow and I only have the owners manual until then.

Why???

Well, it will just help us compare differences between the model year builds.
