Title: Fitting PAS
Post by: missvdubluv on 26 February 2004, 10:50
Ok, just a quickie....

How difficult and expensive is it to fit PAS? Bearing in mind I have already got the rack, but the hoses are split!

Thanx Guys

so do you have PAS fitted to your car and the pipes are split

or do you just have a PAS rack lying in your garage with split pipes?

Well you might have read that I wrote my car off last week, that car had PAS, the rack is fine, but the hoses are split, I am thinking of buying another mk2, have been offered one, but it has no PAS (which I really need!), so was thinking if its not a hard job I would swap over the rack from my old car into the new one!

you need all of this from the donor:-

Rack
steering column link piece (2 UJ's etc)
Resevoir
Resevoir bracket
Oil lines
Pump and 3 brackets (one which bolts on top of water pump, one which bolts to the front of the block and the other which bolts to the end of the block behind the crank pulley)
Crank Pulley
2 Fanbelts

Would you send me that PM please. I have a normal 1.3 golf, how easy would it be for me to fit power steering? If i went to a scrap yard, i could just get the whole lot from a GTI or something and stick it in mine right?

Ok, just looked and its the hose that goes from the pump to the steering rack, does that make a difference?

HA HA...just pghoned TSR and asked them how much they would charge to convert a MK2 to power steering, wait for it......

?750 +vat

Then I got cheeky and asked them if I supplied the parts would they do it, and they will, but according to them it takes 8 hours :o, so the cost would be 8 hours labour....hmmmmm!!
