I know it might be sad, but i'm looking forward to tomorrow afternoon when this turns up:

Yes it might look gash, but i don't think it's ever going to see the road again. The engine will be going in my A reg gti and hopefully creating quite a beast:
2.0 16v
new clutch 2k miles ago
top end rebuild at same time as clutch
WUR mod done
166bhp 145 lb/ft
Should be fun!
Oh, and for all you vultures out there, the rest of the car will be stripped so get your orders in now
-
That looks better than some of the Mk2's I've test drove (described as "Mint" in the ad of course!).
-
Woot Exciting :D

Good stuff!!!!
Whats the centre console like??? and does it have a sun roof??? :) :)
Might as well get in now while i can hahaha
-
Haven't got a clue about the centre console tbh, but i do have a spare one anyway if it is no good. I'd imagine it does have a sunroof with it being a gti.
I can confirm all of this tomorrow when the car arrives.
-
cheers Mew.
Keep me informed, my wind deflecter on my sunroof is naff, so could do with a new one,
and centre console is cracked so something else to go on the shopping list
-
with it being an F-reg is might be lucky enough to have the 256mm brakes also on it. 1989 cars are the changeover cars so last of small bumper 16v's have 256mm setup

It does indeed

Looks more like an interesting project to me. Nothing in the photos I can see that can't be fixed. A little welding for a new back panel and a couple more new panels. Is it rusted out underneath?
-
It's a cat c write off and just isn't worth the time/hassle when i have a perfectly fine shell for it to go in.
Another reason is insurance. On my 8v gti i'm paying £520, with this engine it will be £610. For a standard 16v it would cost me £750 for the year. How mad is that!?
-
Yup. A right off makes the difference.
-
Do you mean makes a difference to the insurance or to the practicality of fixing it?
If the insurance, i'm not saying it is £750 for that particular car, it is just generally £750 for a standard 16v.
-
A written off car is harder to sell on again, and if being sold on, it needs to be disclosed. So unless you intend keeping it, it's best to use it as you intend to. Spares and breaking.
Re-insuring it once it is repaired is not a problem I don't think, but I seem to remember that if you repair it yourself, it would need inspecting by an independant garage. I MAY BE WRONG, so someone correct me if I am.
-
Yeah sure, i realise all of that. I just wasn't sure if you were referring to the insurance or if it was worth fixing when you said "a write off makes the difference".
Anywho, selling it in bits will hopefully mean i'll make some more money back on it, which is nice!
-
not that relevant but i got a quote for a vr6 over a 16v mk3 and was 35 a month more, crazy  its same group as well
-
once a car is written off it needs a vic check to make sure it is not someone trying to use a stolen car as one that was written off
that is what was said to my dad when he had his car written off but kept it
he had to apply for a new log book and have a vic check at his expense
-
Stunning.
note cups of tea have already made there way onto this car.
