cant see why it wouldn't be, GSF probably get them from the same supplier as any other rad place would.

Thanks mate,

was just wondering whether I should go for the VW one as the replacement.
Additonally some parts of the forum mention that the proper mk2 radiator is duo cored....what does this mean??
and will the gsf radiator suffice?

Sorry if I sound like a prat!

Thanks in advance,
G

Duo cored means that there are two layers of matrix in the heat exchanger. One behind the other. Larger engines like the big American V8 can have multicored rads. I had a 3 core in my Cobra.

Aah I see.. Any ideas if the GSF one is duo cored??

Sorry for being a pain, I rather have the right parts in, not like im gonig to be replacing the rad again!(Well I hope not!)

It should be the same as the one taken out, the 16V rad is a bit shorter than the 8v one as the 8v ones are only single core. I think I've read on here somewhere about people replaceing a 16V duo core rad with the single core 8v rad so it shouldnt realy make that big a difference  :undecided:

Thanks for the update,

think im gona bite the bullet and get the gsf rad in tommorow!
if all is well I should have a sexy cruise back on the m25 (with eyes nervously on the temp gauge!)

I rang GSF to ask them if they had any idea of whether their rad (17333) is duo cored and they were not sure but assured me that all mk2 vws get this one like hotcakes!

Any further info on this appreciated, just want her nice and cool!

Thanks

Update:
GSF radiator for mk2 16v: £43.25
VW radiator for mk2 16v: £96.35

According to spokesman at GSF their radiators come from the same suppliers so should be the same.
According to VW Parts Specialist - their radiator is the same one as in the car

Decision time... spend 30 quid more for the original.......or trust the GSF one is actually the same damn thing but cheaper!?

Any help much appreciated! :undecided:

Cheers Monkey Alan,

I got a niessen one from gsf? (652621 VW Golf Jetta 1600 td)
The mechanic told me to let some non bio run in the water tank and hel flush it all out wednesday and fit the rad in.

Out of curiousity I compared the size of the Niessen rad to the one already in and it looks much bigger.. any idea if this ok??

Thanks in advance,
Goops

yeah very weird that,

The guy at the counter said they had 2 in stock and ones of better quality so i went with that...
It looked way longer than the fan casing..

I think i might just head to the vw dealer and order the propa one and stop goofing around GSF!?

Cheers

The bigger rad would be a 8v or possibley a diesel rad  :undecided:

Yeah I think you are right mate,

it must be for the diesel, says Golf Jetta 1600td on the box!
I should get this sorted by wednesday!

My water temp light had been coming on and the mechanic suggested that due to the crunk/oil in the water tank the sensor in the tank must be covered hence the mixed signals. I guess I will find out soon enough!

Also yesterday, I was running the engine with the bonnet open and noticed that the fan kicked in at 110 degrees.........is that the normal temperature the thermostat opens? A friend said that MK2 GTIs issue thermostat opens at 87 degrees? :undecided:

Many Thanks for all your responses,
Goops

The problem with gsf is the parts are fine its the monkeys they employ!!!! Unless you buy their pattern bumpers which dont fit proper!!!!

Hi,

I bought a the proper rad from the VW dealer and got it fitted this afternoon.
Flushed everything out man the crud that came out, was all dark brown water!

New rad is in, ran the engine for a while while putting coolant in and the fan kicked in at 110 degrees...
What is the difference with the opening temp and fully open temp? (85 and 105 as mentioned by monkey alan)

Is this deffo a thermostat issue or is it the temp switch at the bottom of the rad (see i was paying attention with the mechanic at it  )

Looking forward to the motorway drive tommorow!
Thanks for all the help!

i assumed it meant 85 is the temp when the thermostat starts to open and 105 is when its fully open.  :undecided:

Hmm I just want piece of mind, knowing that the car fan is kicking in at the right temps and that I am ok to drive at temps below just 110 (without fan running)
